Default Air Time for Air Heads

So how would the fairness doctrine apply to television or radio if a show like SNL can use their time to try and sway elections via comedy bits.
The Fainess Doctrine does not apply on a program by program basis. It applies to the broadcaster - CBS, Fox, ABC, etc....

Again - The Fairness Doctrine had two basic elements: It required broadcasters to devote some of their airtime to discussing controversial matters of public interest, and to air contrasting views regarding those matters. Stations were given wide latitude as to how to provide contrasting views: It could be done through news segments, public affairs shows or editorials.

So what really is your problem with truth on the public airways?

I don't have a problem with truth! Do you remember Dan Rather and his forged document?

CBS anchor Dan Rather acknowledged for the first time yesterday that there are serious questions about the authenticity of the documents he used to question President Bush's National Guard record last week on "60 Minutes."

The guy (Dan Rather) flat out lied to sway the election! Is it okay for a liberal to lie to push forward a liberal agenda?

I absolutely remember the incident, and no I don't think it's ok for anyone to lie to the public... And that is the purpose of The Fairness Doctrine, to present all sides of an issue so that one side or the other cannot push propaganda on the public...

Mr. Rather announced the document was forged, but that did not disprove the allegations of Bush's record... He also lost his job over it. Do you hold the Right to the same standards?

Bush/Cheney will go down as the worst presidents in history... yes .. worse then Carter you "conservatives". He ruined damaged America so badly.

Obama is the best man for the job face it. Don't try to spin that media is responsible for McCain's loss. Everybody in the Republican party sucks.

I do hold conservatives to the same standard and I also believe if it were not for talk radio that the issues with Dan Rather would not have been exposed.

It is the job of major news media to report news not create it! At least with talk radio, you know their political views. If you don't like it, change the station. The liberals have NPR and also have Air America with Al Franken.

Media (radio/TV) using the public airways is not supposed to have political views. Programming can, but not the media.

Now, where's your outrage about the FCC and the deregualtion which threatens to allow media giants to monopolize the airways? Do you believe one size fits all - as long as it's your view being broadcast? Can you say Fascism?
