Now you know as well as we do those are excluded from the wording of the proposal why is that? Because they are afraid of actually having to give equal time to the likes of Rush where some semblance of the truth might be revealed. I am not saying everything that the right might have to say is the truth just as we all know and some are still in denial about when they tried to pass everything off that the left has to say, that is why you see the decline in viewer ship of the main Stream media and the decline in the print industry because more and more people are realizing that what they are putting out is not at all factual or unbiased any longer.
One thing in the euphoria you might be having at the moment that you do not recognize is that the popular vote was not overwhelmingly for Obama and that he was back peddling in his speech last night.
For now enjoy the honeymoon period because the realitys will set in soon to what was actualy layed upon the doorstep of the American people soon and many will find it a very bitter pill that they did not ecpect. | Toby,
I don't think the "fairness doctrine" is really going to fly, not in any significant way. The people will not stand for that. As much as we all disagree with each other about so many things, whenever someone really starts trying hard to mess with our basic freedoms, they have historically been shot down. I don't think Obama is remotely as evil as all these chicken littles make him out to be. Bush was way more destructive to his party and this country than anyone could have ever imagined. Obama will have to work overtime to equal the damage Bush, Cheney, Rove left us with. Now my big issue is the 800-pound gorilla in the room that was ignore by all during this campaign - illegal immigration. That is the reason I had no use for either of these candidates. I am naive and optimistic enough to believe that Obama and the Democrats will not be able to foist some outrageous legislation on us giving illegals carte blanche. And my reasoning is that a lot of the Democrats who have been elected to Congress in 2006 and again in 2008 are not like Pelosi, Reid, Durbin, Shumer, etc. They are far more conservative, they took seats from Republicans.
I have no use for Republicans or Democrats. They let their biases get in the way of having any reasonable thoughts. And much of the garbage being espoused here is a good example of that.

Toby, c'mon man, stick to the point in fact and that is the Fairness Doctrine does apply to all broadcast media... Read the freaking thing before you start your Right-wing diatribe... Printed media has always presented multiple views on their OP ED and Editorial pages - c'mon dude!
| Its obvious you have never read the democratic "Sacramento Bee". They in no way ever present multiple views. They are the major paper and actually printed the views and what they supported on the ballot. Would you call that multiple views?

I can't speak specifically to all media outlets, but generally "most" news papers have OP Ed pages where the other side is opinionated... Better?

Arby that is right you have the op-eds in print media but only what is allowed by the editors , and they have clearly stated that the target will be talk radio , you do not get the same representation on broadcast media as a whole as it sits at present no matter how the left like to spin that fact or attack anyone who points that out. If it were that way you would see Rush , Savage , Medved, and the rest on all the channels and you do not.
As it has been pointed out the programing fills a niche that the by gone media does not that is why ratings are so high and why the likes of CBS is so low , I will also mention air america for good measure it was heavily financed and still could not get a large enough audience for it to be listed as a top rated program , there is a reason why figure it out.
And if as you say it effects all media I am looking forward to seeing those on the right have equal time to practice dissent you know the whole reason for the first amendment in the first place.
