If you do it of your own free will, that is service.
If you are forced to do it or else, that is slavery

This will be forced. Wont be able to graduate high school or college because you did not fulfill your service requirement.

Nothing like bringing slavery back.........Would you expect anything less?

most choose to work. now you "have" to pay taxes...or else.

some work to get their education and use part of their salary to pay for education. now if you do this required community service (at least what was said during the elections), you get a break in your tuition.

Now i've done community service as part of my college obligations...and i've done community service as part of a court order. you know what I did? I helped 3rd graders who were having a hard time reading...to read. I built a "haunted maze" where all proceeds went to Big Brothers, Big Sisters. I did data entry at a radio station. NONE of it was horrible. Most of it was fun.

I have a huge problem with the federal government forcing children to do community service. You should too.
History has proven, to anyone paying attention, that 'mommy/daddy' that are both working and not paying attention to the young ones at home have been problematic. Those that make enough to stay home have balanced family lives and typically are the people that have children that contribute willingly.
This is innaccurate on many levels.
These things always proliferate like for like, not unlike.
This goal is to force the children to 'work' not to teach parents how to parent. The ultimate result will be detrimental. Not to mention that that kind of power of government over our children could be dangerous to say the very least.

What was written on the website 'change.gov' was that community service would be required. It did not indicate that it was optional or that it would apply toward any tuition or fees for formal education. My children have done community service as part of their education. It was optional, albeit there was credit given in exchange. That is the huge difference. Something was given in exchange and the community service was optional. Anything other than this (or being required to satisfy a court order etc.) cannot be anything other than slavery.
