Default Skyrocketing Energy Prices

Hot Air » Blog Archive » Obama: I’ll make energy prices “skyrocket”

Quote:
In another clip from the same January 2008 interview with the San Francisco Chronicle in which Barack Obama promised to bankrupt anyone foolish enough to build coal-burning power plants, he also made an interesting admission about his entire energy plan. Obama told the editors that his policies would make energy prices “skyrocket” as the energy industry passed along the exorbitant costs of his cap-and-trade policy:

You know, when I was asked earlier about the issue of coal, uh, you know — Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because I’m capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it — whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, uh, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.
Just remember how much fun it was a few short weeks/months ago, when fuel was pushing $5.00 a gallon.
It will happen again, as will the cost of electricity skyrocket because coal is evil.

I just got raped on my last energy bill. The only thing that uses gas in my house is the furnace and hot water heater. Well, the heat wasn't on, and Everyone took the same amount of showers and I did the same amount of laundry, yet my gas bill went up $109 in one month. WTF!!!!

LG @ E our electric company says rates are going up 17% this year.
Our Gas company bought natural gas over the summer. The price then was $11 a cubic meter it is now $7.
All that speculation so our gas will go up appx 20%.

Even though no one, and I mean no one approved the proposal for electricity to go up, they are uping it anyway. Why do they even bother asking us what we think. They raise our prices and say they get a government discount if they can help us conserve energy after raising the prices. BS!!!! I don't know about you, but when I work on the dock and it's 5 degrees, when I come home I want to be warm, not have to dress like I'm outside with blankets on so I don't have to give Duke Energy $800 a month. How about the government give me a discount, of not paying taxes so I can afford my energy bill!!!!

look at you bill.
LG & E takes some money and sets in aside to help the poor or those on assistence. They tack it on to your bill, and use it for that program. I appreciate the way they asked.
