No she isnt required to file a return. Child support is not an income, and should never be reported on your tax forms. As long as you have legal documents designating the payments to be child support such as a divorce or seperation decree then the answer is no she doesnt for she has no income. You can claim your child as a dependent if she has lived with you, and the baby as long as there is no legal statemnts in the divorce decree that says the fathers intitled too. And if hes not youll then as long as certain requirments are met, you can claim the little one as well.

Hi Tax Guy,

What do you know about a driver being a Washington state resident, working out of Oregon, doing an Oregon miles only run? Do we need to make changes on a W-4 for Oregon to start taking the taxes out? Or do we need to let our company know so they can start taking the taxes out?

Also, if I do an Oregon miles only run for 6 months, and a Washington miles run for 6 months do I still qualify to pay a full year of Oregon state tax or no tax?

Appreciate any help you have.

hi tax guy. as a company driver, i use my yard address as my mailing address and home address. i live on the truck every single day. the safety guy said he does driver taxes for a fee. he said he usually deducts $15000 for each drivers deductions unless they want to itemize everything. i don't know what this means. does it mean that my company allows $15000 dollars that i can use for all deductions? is that an option the company offers? or should i itemize like he said. and if i itemize with the per dium, will my credit card statements for phone and major purchases be suffient proof for itemizing the per dium? i know, i have no clue. i don't know anyone i can hire to do my taxes. i am in mesquite, tx. can you recommend anyone? thanks
