I recently had my wife join me on the road and we are now operating as a team. My question is do we each get to deduct 75% of 52.00 per day (daily per diem)while we are working?

You can both claim the Per Diem differential.
If both Spouses are legitimately working, you can both take the Per DIem deduction.

$52 is one way to do it, but the locality rate might be more advantageous.

and you can take up to 100% per day, but you'll have to decide what method to use.

Check out the Per DIem Calculator which will automatically figure out if Flat rate or Laclitly is best for you. THe Calculator is free and you can either enter your zip code where you overnighted, or just use the location picker tool (it is the airplane icon).

If you don't see the town where you overnighted or had a rest period, you can select Other and then write in the name of the location, and the Per Diem Calculator will retrieve the best rate for your location.

Great question.

However, if you have meal receipts, or any receipts for that matter, they can always help support your travel history if there is ever a question. THe only receipts you need to keep are non travel expenses, lodging receipts, an dany travel receipts greater than $75.

Travel receipts less than $75 only need a logbook entry stating the date place and purpose of the expense.

What you can deduct for Per Diem depends on where you traveled. The Per Diem Calculator will figure out the best method to get you the largest deduction based on your travel history. Go to Per Diem Reports and answer the questions, method 2 yields are larger deduction for Truckers. Enter wher you overnighted on trips or had a rest period and on the last day enter where you finished your trip. You can enter either the zip code into the location box, or the airport code, or click on the airplane icon and choose a location State/Country and then the City. If your city is not listed, pick other and write in where you were. You can even enter a mile marker. It will find the best rate.

You can't deduct the expenses of getting to your regular workplace, but if you travel to various work sites, then you may be able to deduct the expenses claiming you are based at home.

I'll need to know more about what you do.
