Here to help when needed tax time is coming
Here to help with support for your tax questions. All questions are free, copies of forms, charts, log and expense tracking sheets - free. I only charge for actual returns.
You should check with your tax person and let them do a 1040ES to see where you stand before the actual bill hits you so you can be prepared for your tax bill. I do this for free for my clients - your tax person probably would too.
Another thing that has come up - people who have not filed for years and you haven't gotten a letter from Uncle Sam. That is because he probably owes you money. He can go back 5 years, if he hasn't contacted you about a deficeit, to collect. But you can only go back 3 years to collect. Before April 15, 2009 those years are 2005, 2006 and 2007.
Another thing that isn't publicized if you don't file they tax you at a higher tax rate then if you filed yourself. They don't know about your expenses or your per diem. So they keep more of the refund than if you had filed. Get your past years done by someone, somehow and if the results are in your favor file if not you just wasted a little bit of time and can file or not. I don't know what other professionals actually charge but a look see for me is free. Only charge if there is an amemdment furnished to the client. If you don't see what the refund would have been you are probably sitting on several thousands of dollars of refund that you will lose if you don't act.
I don't know about you but I have a problem with them keeping more than they are entitled too. My philosophy on dealing with the IRS is keep good records, deduct every penny you are legally entitled to file on time if at all possible. Towards my clients - treat every client as if they were personal friends (and they become friends) file them on time with all the deductions they are entitled too, check up before each quarter, track them during the year as necessary, and do their returns as if they were my own, be available during the year for questions and answers as appropriate.
