Default IRS is auditing truckers

Last year my tax guy told me that starting tax year 2009
the IRS will be auditing truckers more aggresively than
ever before.
Mainly for itemized deductions above the standard.
So if your planning to itemize keep all receipts unless you
want to claim the standard deduction on your expenses.
If you want to play it safe claim no more than the
standard deduction on everything (meals, misc., etc.)

All you drivers living in your truck, the IRS says you can't have away from home expenses if you don't have a home. I got this in an audit in 1988. I either had to get someone to say I paid them rent, or pay the government.

Talk about discrimination.

Your home is where you have your mail sent or spend your home time.

At that time it was a Post Office Box. One of the women in dispatch would pick up my mail for me when she dropped off the company mail. Then she would read it to me on the phone.

The simple days.

Well duh, you aren't spending money twice (one for home, one for truck/hotel), so why should you get the tax deduction ?
