Accidents like that just CONFIRM the increasing STUPIDITY in Trucking.
In '07, I think, I was leaving New Orleans and needing to get to Morgan City, I decided an interesting and eventful journey was in order.
Instead of taking the 395 to 90, I was told by the owners of the Combo that I could take exit 182 on I-10.
Get onto Rt. 22 to Rt.70 to Rt.1 to Rt.90.
Such an enjoyable adventure for a 70' Combo (which thankfully the Trailer was empty) that included a roll across a Pontoon Bridge that lowered quickly with my passage across the small channel.
MY empty weight was under the posted limit yet the Bridge bloody well sank to almost the tops of the Pontoons and was a ONE TIME ADVENTURE. The Bridge was as well a ONE VEHICLE ONLY deal.
Apparently other Truckers disregarded this Route for seemingly obvious reasons as I saw only three other Combos north of the Bridge but none south till Rt. 90.
It was fun and I wish now I had snapped a few pics, but alas I wasn't thinking about pictures at the time, only the picture of me SINKING in the Combo as the Bridge collapsed on one side.
Louisiana has other Pontoon Bridges of which I've only heard about and have no inclination to view personally apart from a 4 wheeler and a Gator Guide.
