A private consortium pitched its proposal to help put truck-only toll lanes along western I-285 to the state Transportation Board, in a meeting in Savannah on Wednesday.
The proposal would have DOT hire the group of Goldman Sachs, the engineering firm PBS&J and the law firm McGuire Woods to help develop and finance a possible expansion of I-285 and I-20.
The idea is to build the I-285 project by 2014, to finish around the same time as the I-75 project that just went under contract and has truck lanes. When all that truck traffic from I-75 hits the same old lanes of I-285 it could bottleneck.
