As Rhode Island's incoming transportation chief Michael P. Lewis must manage hundreds of millions of dollars of highway and bridge construction.
That might sound daunting - except Lewis' last job was managing Massachusetts' $14.79 billion Big Dig, the nation's most complex highway project.
That's about 25 times as much as the Rhode Island's biggest transportation project, the ongoing relocation of a section of Route 195 in Providence.
Lewis tells the Providence Journal that he understands if people have questions about his role in the troubled Big Dig.
But Gov. Don Carcieri credits Lewis with moving the Big Dig from disarray to completion.
