Transportation officials have halted plans to reduce the speed limit on a portion of U.S. 1 in northern Virginia pending further discussion with local leaders.A study released in September by the Virginia Department of Transportation recommended dropping the speed limit from 45 miles per hour to 35 miles per hour along a four-and-a-half-mile stretch of U.S. 1 in the Alexandria section of Fairfax County.
