Driving up state Highway 38 to his home in Forest Falls, Tim Lange sometimes worries about how long it might take emergency crews to respond to an accident on the narrow mountain highway.
His concern heightened recently, after four emergency call boxes along the highway between Mentone and Big Bear Lake were removed.
With cell phone service in the area spotty, Lange worries that motorists involved in an accident or who see a fire won't be able to contact authorities in time.
