“In Long Beach, you step on the gas and it’s like the Bonneville Flats — straight and level and conducive to speeding,” said Lt. Michael Tangney, commanding officer of the Long Beach Police Department’s traffic division. “In the last three months, we’ve given tickets for cars traveling between 50 and 68 in a 35-mile-an-hour zone.”
