Fans of a Pittsburgh public radio station might notice a different voice reading them the riot act of roadway back-ups and traffic hot spots.
WDUQ's in-house news anchors took over traffic reporting duties Monday, after the station switched its traffic provider from Metro Traffic to NAVTEQ Traffic, which owns Traffic.com.
Chicago-based NAVTEQ transmits information about congestion, accidents and travel times on major roadways to a monitor in the WDUQ newsroom, so news anchors can look at updates and use those they deem most important, said Mark Bertolet, the station's marketing and communications director. When the station used Metro Traffic, a Metro reporter compiled traffic data at the company's office in the PennDOT Regional Traffic Management Center in Collier and broadcast the information on WDUQ.
