 Overnite settles with black dockworker applicants

Overnite Transportation will pay $232,250 in back pay and interest to settle federal allegations of discrimination against black applicants for dockworker jobs at its South Holland, Ill., facility, the U.S. Department of Labor announced Oct. 31.
The allegations were based on an investigation by the department's Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, covering the period Oct. 1, 2003, to Sept. 30, 2004. The investigation found "that Overnite Transportation failed to afford 260 black applicants equal employment opportunities in the hiring process due to their race," the Department of Labor announced.
