Bridge removal on Hwy 2 west of Bemidji begins Aug. 10 with detour
Motorists will encounter a detour as crews begin removing two bridges on U.S. Highway 2 at Wilton, west of Bemidji, on Monday, Aug. 10.
The bridges will be replaced with a box culvert to allow recreational use of the abandoned rail bed underneath the highway.
Eastbound traffic will be detoured north on County Road 515, also known as Scribner Road, then south on Highway 89 to Highway 2. Westbound traffic will follow the same route in reverse.
Access to businesses adjacent to the construction area will be maintained using County Road 14 while construction is in progress. The work is expected to be complete by mid-October.
The $2.2 million project is funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
