It seems to me that once a background/security check has been completed, and the driver has been cleared for CDL's and HAZ-Mat certification, he/she should also be allowed to carry a handgun or other type of protection. After all, we are at a high risk of hijackings, theft, and death from people that are hiding from the police with the intent of inflicting death just to gain what they want. When you take away our protection, you take away our chance just to stay alive. After all. Why shouldn't we protect our loads, equipment, lives, and our country?

Many years ago I was driving a city route.
I pulled behind a shopping center to make a delivery at a JC Pennys receiving dock.
Just as I slowed to make a swing around to back in.
A car came screamming up in front of me,a guy jumped out and jumped up on top of my driver side fuel tank.
It happened so fast,my mind wasn't understanding what in the world was going on?
I had my window open to look out to see to back in this dock.
Well this guy din't say anything, just made a grab for my door handle.
Without thinking I opened my door.
This guy flew out in to space, and landed on his back knocking the breath out of him.
At that point I could of just ran over him.
I don't want to kill anyone no matter what their problem is.
So with him laying on the grownd by my front tractor tire.
I put it in neutral than pulled on my brake valves, and started flooring it,with the motor racing, this guy looking at my tire and gaspping for air,he just crawled to his car,and took off.
I called my TM,telling him the story.
He asked what the guy wanted,I had no clue?
Than my TM said good move, can you get back to work?
I said sure,no harm done.
This is something I'll never forget, something like that doesn't happen every day thats for sure.

That's a good question but where would the company stand in case you shoot some one ?I agree with you but the legalties you might face could be worse than a beating.

Thats just my question Jim Bob,if someone comes after you,and you harm them,or kill them than what?

After I opened the door on the guy that was after me,it would have been just as easy to run over his head.
But what would that have got me?
Nightmares for life, and guilt that would also haunt me forever more.

I thank God for the out come I had in my case.
To this day I don't know what this guy wanted, but he was able to get away with no harm to either one of us.

Better to stay put in your tractor, most have cell phones, just 3 numbers gets the cops to take care of things(9)(1)(1)!
When you try to take matters into your own hands the out come on your part isn't always good.
