    Default Driver protection...

I have been reading a bit about driver safety on various sites, I am wondering what kind of personal protectiona driver can carry.
I have come across the obvious heavy flashlight, hammer/tools, box knife etc....but what about a taser, or pepper sprays, belt sheath knife/lg hunting knife etc, as far as I can tell a concealed/or otherwise handgun is illegal but what about a shotgun? or is ther a site I have missed which gets into this area or page/link on this forum?

I'm not trying to be sarcastic or give you a hard time, but here's my $0.02 on your question.

The two most powerful weapons that you can carry legally:

1.) Your brain (common sense) - if it doesn't look safe and you just don't feel right about it, then don't stick around to see if you're right or wrong.

2.) A cell phone - if things start to feel a bit unsafe and for some reason you can't get out of the area you're in, start dialing 911 quick, and stay as safe as you possibly can.

Drivers travel in a lot of different areas and may not recognize the fact that they are in a bad area, but generally if it looks like trouble, then it probably is. If you see something suspicious call the police and let them sort it out. There are dead drivers that have tried to be heroes. If you stay aware of your surroundings, then there's no need for any weapons. If someone wants to steal your trailer or your rig, back away and let them. It's better to stay alive and live to give a police report than to wind up in the hospital or dead.

I definitely agree with you about common sense and gut feelings about safety. However being a newbie I am trying to read as much as I can find on the web and crime against drivers comes up quite a bit.
So I am just curious about what is legal, what is typical for drivers to have with them in case they need some type of protection etc...

    Good advice HeadRush.

And when common sense goes out the window pull back back hammers at let the baby fly. A double barrel 10 gauge will save your butt quicker than common sense or the police.

    Thats my .02 cents.
