Default Can I work OTR part-time?

Leaving an office job and don't need a lot of money to live on - its just me - is it possible to work as an OTR driver part-time?

    Thanks for your replies.

Back when the economy was normal I worked OTR as a driver for a temporary employement agency that hired drivers, between local delivery and pickup jobs. Pay was good, but no benefits. Worked mostly the western states so I was home regular. Can't say if that will work now with all the drivers out of work due to this lousy economy. Things have changed a lot in this industry and not for the better.

we have to first "define" OTR.........

once, it was known as "long haul", and there was NO WAY you could do that part time.......because you'd be 3,000 miles away from home.

some companies have OTR nowadays, that are only about 1,000 round trip, and you're home daily.......

some have OTR and you're out 2-3 days before you get home.

an "employment agency" may be your only bet here. but beware.........

too many drivers are out of work and WILL take those jobs over you.

right now, you have NO experience. to find such a job might be next to impossible.

for instance, right now, i am working but i really HATE my job. I AM LOOKING for something else.

if you were to be "looking" for a job, at the same time as i, and we lived in the same area..........who do you think would get the job, me a 20+ year driving vet, or you, a "newbie", that can be and will be an insurance risk right out of the box.....??

best that you just go to school, get your training, and go "long-haul" (OTR), get your experience, and get on any type of "senority list", then pick and choose your runs........

    till that time arrives........

you'll be doing as told to do........

because the unemployment line, forms to the left........

This is MY banana.....you can't have it....!!

The best part-time driving jobs are school busses. Most of those companies have training programs as well as the hours are tough for most but perfect for moms. Call your local school and they will tell you who handles the contract for your area if not handled by the city.

    Good luck.

P.S. OTR is "over the road" in case you didn't know.....

Schnieder National (Green Bay) was advertising for otr driver jobs on the radio where you would work a week or two then be off a week or two. I don't remember the particulars but give them a call. They train also if you are looking for that. Good luck.
