I HOPE these Schools are using Loaded or LTL Loads at least instead of empties.
The School I attended in Goodlettsville, TN in '98 used somewhat loaded trailers for the road tests AND had all students (individually of course) stop on a rather steep incline (ascent) and start off again.
While we were driving Cab Overs, it made no difference when stopped and starting on hills.

Downshifting: INCREASE RPMs at least 300-400 before engaging the lower gear when Floating. At least 600 when jumping gears.
MOST Transmissions prefer anywhere from 1100-1600 for up and down shifting and the Transmission will let you know what range works best.

    This advice/suggestion is for 6, 8, 9 (and Reverse 9), 10, Super 10, 13 speeds.

Other drivers have their advice/suggestions as well.

We are using empty trailers with a 2001 International day cab with the eaton 9 spd transmission.

I'm getting better with the shifting I just hope I do better when I go for the actual road test. I was doing some shifting with a bob tail and did alot better.

Tried the alley dock and first time I got it in which is good.

So I am going in really early in the morning to practice from about 7 or 8am till about 5-530pm. Thanks for the information that you guys gave me though!

    I'll update you all soon..

Well, I failed at the Alley dock, and I almost failed during my brake test because the inspector decided to jump to the incab inspection and I assumed once I was done with my incab I would go out and check my high beams and turn signal and he pretty much screwed me up, he tested me the way he was not supposed to. But I missed the alley dock by 2 feet, if I would have G.O.A.L I would have saw my problem and fixed it but I just wanted to let everyone know how I did. I retest in a week or so. Wish me luck.

Do a lot of investigation. It all depends on what you want but to me I'm always looking for the biggest payday and the most hometime. You may want the hometime first before pay. Look at city and county government work if you want to be home a lot. Go OTR if you want adventure and a good screwing on pay at first.
