Rumor has it that Yellow Transportation CVE and RFO management have mailed dozens of "Safety Informational Letters" to employees who have had "Multiple Injuries"! These letters document reported workplace injuries reported to the company as far back as the date you got hired!
The "Safety Informational Letter" reads in part..."A review of your work record reveals that you have committed unsafe acts in the workplace that have resulted in injuries X times since your seniority date of 00/00/0000. It goes on to state..."Your repeated failure to act safely, or follow posted work rules, in the workplace is therefore completely unacceptable and needs to be improved upon."
It then goes on to say "In an effort to help restore your attention to the safe workplace practices, we will be closely observing and monitoring your work behavior. Any unsafe act or work behavior will be brought to your attention immediately and you will be expected to make appropriate changes to correct".
The letters were signed by the Distribution Center Manager, and the Area Director of Operations. CC copies were sent to Local 407 and the two elected dock stewards. Needless to say the members are outraged, and are demanding to get these letters retracted from their files! In one guys case, he was warned about reporting a "bee sting" and in another case for going to the hospital to be treated for a poison inhalation hazard incident caused by a leaking container! How were these "Unsafe Acts"?!
Local 407 officials are checking into the situation, and rumor has it that they are contacting the IBT Legal Department to find out the legality of the letters. One guy I talked to said he was calling the State Bureau of Workers Comp to file a complaint for harassment. Maybe all the injured workers should call and complain about being harassed for filing workers comp claims!
Yellow has tried this in the past with what they consider "comp freaks", and it did very little to scare them! Now it appears they are blanketing all the workers with these "Safety Informational Letters" to try to intimidate them!
Any other barns around the country got these bogus letters yet?! What's your Local doing about it?!
