Same thing happen to me. I work for CF, when they closed I went to apply at fed-x frt. They took all our applications. But no one was hired. They were hire people off the street with no experience, so they could train them the way they wanted. It did not bother me that they did not hire me, just that I wasted time on their fifteen-page application.

That's so they can brain wash them into thinking that unions are the enemy.Little do they know that if it wasn't for the union they would be making $12.00 an hour.

First if neither company can gaurantee you full time hours, you do not owe either an explanation as to what you do to put food on your table.

If one offers you enough hours then give yourself to them and try and make it work. For people to say that a union carrier will treat you better is hogwash. You have more protection, but the hours are much more sporadic especially during lean times and the work environment is more divided between the managers and the labor.

If you tell Conway, they very well, may not hire you. That is their perrogative. As a casual on the dock at Yellow, there is no gaurantee there as well, until you get in the union. Before you get your days in they can let you go or just never call you, if they do not like you.

So there is no easy answer here. Go with your gut and try to commit to the one that gives you a better feeling of a long term commitment.

Good luck

Hi,
FOF,you're right! You have to put food on the table. When you work at cway zip your lip and do the best you can.If they don't ask, don't tell.(heard that somewhere b4)
I've never worked at non u trucking co so I don't have experience with them.I can tell you though I worked at 6or7 at the same time trying to make ends meet.
Keep your head down and ride the horse untill you get bucked off or he calms down.
Good luck, tough choice.

We'll just have to disagree on this one. With 28 years in the industry (22 in LTL) I think that the Union Carriers do treat you better and it's evident from comments made on these boards. No need to really get into this, but remember, we have our negotiated conditions in writing, not a so-called Company Handbook that doesn't mean a thing when the boss wants to do it his way. If MP Welsh is a young guy, he'll be much better off in the long run getting a Union job. Think longterm MP, don't think about today. You'll be glad you did.
