Americans make some of the finest vehicles on the road now, they screwed themselves in the 80's when they in my mind made cars not as durable so you would buy another soon, at the same time the Japanese were upping their quality....
Same way with Motorcycles... at one time Harley Davidsons sucked, they made junk when AMF built them... and the Japanese noticed....
The Roadstars, Vulcans etc are some of the best most reliable bikes on the road now.
I own an 02 1603cc Roadstar Silverado with 20k on it and the only time it's been in the shop was when Yamaha did a recall on the transmission, which was free to me.
Don't get me wrong, I love a Harley and if I wanted one I could buy one cash tomorrow and at one time they were an investment you could ride for 6 months and then sell it for more than you gave for it... Not anymore, they are spitting them out left and right now and people everyday try to sell a used Harley at a new price and it can no longer be done.
I like the people who ride the Harleys and it was my first choice but it pissed me off when I walked in with cash to buy one and the guy would not take a dime off the price... I left and bought the Roady and I am still glad I did.
