This is what deregulation has brought us to. Our industry used to be a solid middle class job, makes me sick to think about. Good post!

This is the strategy of most of the LTL companies discount the heck out of the freight charges to maintain volume .They don't have to down size or restucture there companies some are even hiring. If YRC stays in business we will be a lean mean machine ,and they will be rushing to down size to save money.

I been told by a competitor driver I'm friends with the their company has made them give up 5 paid holidays or become an economic layoff. When you are recall you will become a new hire all over again. Some of the profits they are showing is smoke in the mirrors at the workers expense......

I did just hear from a friend of mine that works at their AY (Alliance/Youngstown) barn that they are going to start getting back half of the 5% giveback that the drivers were forced into earlier this year. So by the time they get their next scheduled raise they will already be back to where they were before, unlike us.

Here's some facts. We (con-way) did make a decent profit for the economy, we're hurting like most other LTL companies, but we all not hauling freight for free, we have record tonnage, but pricing is 19% lower than 3Q last year. We closed 3Q at a 96% operating ratio. We are also geting back 2.6% of the 5% wage reduction and will get the rest back when we make a 93% operating ratio. 401K comes back at 95%. The bad new is my heathcare is going from $9/wk to $15/wk, but still pretty damn cheap for health care. As far as restucturing, we have and are still improving effiency in a lot of areas.

Not trying to start anything, these are the facts. I sincerly wish you guys the best, even though a YRC closure will help us, I wouldn't wish that on you and your families. If the pricing battles continue and I have to keep working for 2.4% less, I'm find with that as long as thousands of YRC drivers can provide for their families.

I hope YRC pulls out of this mess, and I really mean that.
