Wonder how it would work? Combining everything won't be that hard. But I wonder if we start at the bottom or dove tail in. Or maybe not have a job at all. This could get very interesting. hmmmmmm. This should be some good :argue: between the opcos.:1sm057crazy::TR10driving03:

Won't be that hard? Natl hasn't implemented all of freights rules yet, imagine if people had to learn them all at once! Yeeks. It would help push some old guys out though. Ofcourse, it's hard to retire when your paying for Caddys and 40k trucks in your 60's and 70's

I'm pulling the pin in 11 months, so I really don't care what Fedex Freight does. I'm one of the old Viking Freight line drivers. Then we became FXFW. We were still happy campers, until Hootersville decided to take over the whole operation and make everyone FXF. They closed down our HQ in Santa Clara, and they closed down line haul HQ in Tucson Az. Moved everything to Harrison Arkansas, but not everyone was offered a job. They got rid of all our full time dock workers. They gave them the option of becoming part time dock workers with no benefits. Some of our dock workers had 29 years seniority on the dock. The made some of our line drivers shuttle drivers. You get to drive to a break bulk terminal and work the dock all night, then drive back to your home terminal. Some of these drivers had over 20 years in as line drivers, now they are dock workers. I never did understand why Fedex bought Watkins. I was told it was a perfect fix. You could run the freight at a lower rate because your service wasn't as good as freights was. Also for the Canadian rights. We only had a hand full of yards between east and west that duplicated services so no one was hurt with the merger. That is not the case with National and Freight. it would probably end up like the Yellow-Roadway deal, with massive layoffs. We refer to Harrison as Hootersville now because its like dealing with a third world country. They don't even speak the same language. I hope they keep things separate, but I doubt it. Just my thoughts, I'm probably wrong again TP

I was told years ago when they tried to buy Day & Ross and were turned down, they were hell bent on getting those Canadian rights...

We always hear they wanted Watkins for Canada..... but who knows.

That's right. The only reason Fedex wanted Watkins was for the established Canadian business and the only reason they haven't done anything else as of yet is because they thought they could push out YRC, well YRC is still here and Fedex is loosing to much money. So yes there will be some type of major change real soon.

I agree with you. Natl sends all their canada stuff over to freight to go across anyway. Atleast in Buffalo they do

every one states merger ok but the one question i have is dock capacity i know here there is no way with national/ freight combined daily bill count we would not have a big enough terminal to handle all this freight combined i talk to local freight guys they do not have enough dock nor do we here at national we both need bigger terminals never mind merging us not to mention locally there are no terminal that would acomidate at least 150 doors if we were to merge i would have to imagine this would be a issue around the country what do you guys think.

Same as now. The big cities would have a capacity problem, but out here in the rural, Freight does P&D for both opco's. One thing I've learned from FedEx is, if they say they'll never do it, they're thinking of doing it.

Door Pressure

It is all about door pressure, the pounds pushed through your terminal divided by the total # of doors. And how many times a door is turned. My guess is a few terminals will double or even triple in volume while others are closed. That is National and Freight. I could be totally wrong but I think something huge is coming.

The key is to stop worrying about things you have no control over. A company's actions will reflect its profit driven nature and you just have to hope that you figure into the equation somewhere.

I've kept my mouth shut and my opinion to myself. There's a rule to live by!!! Sharpshooter, why did you come here? Why do you post? All I ever hear out of you is negative or just bordering on it. And like I said before, FREIGHT Drivers belong on their board. Keep your BS over there. Toyota has Lexus, and Nissan has Infiniti, Gm has Chevy, Buick, Cadillac,Hummer,Audi or is it Saab, and Volvo, and Ford has Lincoln, Mercury and Rolls Royce, and Chrysler has "the government", Dodge and Jeep. UPS has Overnight and 3/4 of our business! So, why are you "Freight Drivers" stirring it up over here? "Oh, I use to work at Freight and", SO GO BACK IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT HERE

what are talking about? you throw your opinion around every chance you get, that's all you do. BTW. I've worked at both, so we sorta have a preview of what's coming to natl. If you don't want to know, don't read it

I'll take a 6 pack please , 240 oz of golden goodness .

Ok I'm taking over!! I'm buying the company and starting new work rules. Everyone works, still line haul and p&d. Start at the top of the board and work thru it everyday. If all the drivers are not used that day start at that point the next day. No more bid runs sorry guys. Got to be fair to everyone. This way everyone works!!! I'm queen of the company!!!

So stop the damn sniping at each other.

Hey boss can I have next Friday off? :hide:

These Merge threads are hilarious! Jeff, did you really need to format the entire site to start this drama again? Everywhere I have been to the last few days everyone has asked me what my thoughts are on the merger, I say "what merger"? They say, "we read about it on truckingboards!"...

This merger has been discussed repeatedly since the inception of National LTL. If there is anything tangible, why haven't we saw documentation, or at least a verifiable source? All I hear is rumors, most seemingly generated here by chiggers post.

We can leak all of YRC's secret documents, why not some hard evidence? If none exists then let sleeping dogs lie...

Its only my opinion but how in the world would FXF handle all the excess freight on their docks, does anyone remember the year of the Teamsters strike in the early 90's? A couple million lbs added to a system would slow up the operations. Then there is the problem with sort and segragate the two types of freight. UPSF and CNWY have been doing the sort and segragate forever what is the learning curve? When FXF shuts down LGO and moves them to Harrison then I
will worry.

Lets not forget how lomg did it take FDX to make Kinkos profitable? When they bought Kinkos the economy was not in the tank like it is now!!

:Emoticon_digging: They will do what they do best, lay off the good help and hire moron's off the street that have never been around a semi-truck or forktruck either for that matter and wonder why the freight is tore all to pieces. I know that is what they have done in Memphis. All the good help we had that knew how to break and load trailers are gone and all we have is a bunch of newbies that don't know any better than what they were taught when they first hired on...that includes turning off the forktruck when you get off of it. Someone's going to get hurt by these morons and Fedex is gonna get reamed for it. But, that's what happens when you gut your most valuable assest's to save money.
