Yellow | Question.

You brought the teamsters (union) into it in the above quote. In a matter of speaking.
Brotherhood also.
My wife is disabled. I don't have intentions as you mentioned above I just want them to follow the rules like we HAVE to follow the rules. I follow the rules. I still go in and work. I didn't shut down and I get along with all the people I work with. We all get along. Management is the one who is causing the problem.. But I found it hard to understand where you were going in your post. Or what you were trying to say. Sorry.
I was wondering the same thing about his post, anyways I have seen handicap parking for semi's in the plaza's on the turnpike even saw one yesterday with the placard hung in his w/shield. My wife has one and I know when we went to a race they were checking to see if that person was in the car if not you lost the placard on the spot."nuff said enjoy the weather and weekend stay safe

Why would you not let two war veterans with disabled plates not Park in a disabled spot?
What makes a war veteran more entitled than anybody else? The whole I'm a veteran thing has been pushed to the point of ridiculous and borders on absurd. Just because your a veteran doesn't give any more rights than any other citizen. Oh by the way I'm a disabled combat vet.

Makes sense to me now. You've been there 28 years? Way too long by YRC standards. They always jack with the old times they want to get rid of. Not to mention you have a disability that could cause you to take a fall down the stairs, and then go on workman's comp and then sue YRC. They worked hard to steal that 15% to just give it away. I think they are trying to nip this one in the bud.
Your comment on age & getting rid of the old folks is dead on the money. They see older workers as a long term expense problem. If not for a Union you wouldn't have anybody over 50 working there. In 2014 ABF work comp cost went up 35 % according to a letter they sent out to all the barns. You want to keep the share holders happy. Lower your cost, raise the stock price. How, get rid of older workers who cost them a lot of money & remove the pension fund cost. It will happen just a matter of when. von.

Interesting points. I'd like to see statistics on age breakdown vs. comp claims just out of curiosity. Funny, I remember long ago it was younger guys who went out on comp every spring with back problems so they could have long summer "vacations".

Incidentally, how do older workers cost the company more for pension fund costs? Aren't pension contributions the same for all employees?

Do not doubt your post a bit, Von. But seems where I am, it is the under 20 years seniority crowd with most comp claims.

No. We cannot do that. All of the correspondence has to be saved as a lawsuit is going to be filed. Some have thrown it away but they shouldn't. The lawyer said we can expect the process to take from one to one and a half years. So everything they send has to be saved. In my mind. Even stupid stuff like the above letter.
I am fiiing a complaint with HIPA against them for just asking for my medical history.
I have been told they cannot even do that. I will find out if it is a violation of my medical privacy. They will not be getting my medical history.
Besides. Why would I want them to know when I had my prostrate exam?
I get that checked here at work everyday! Lol.....

Ouch! A year and a half?? I hope you're asking for attorney's fees on top of damages in the suit! Make YRC pay your attorney!

Yes.. We will. Certainly.

I do agree... I am not one myself... Sorry to hit a nerve. I see world War two vets as they dissappear... That was my thoughts... Although none are working. It has gone overboard. Vietnam vets got screwed. My brother was one. Sorry.

The average age at our barn is 55. I think the thing that bothers them at our barn is that we have so many day we can all take off legally so there are shortages almost everyday on every shift. It is just because we have vacation singles and sick days we can use.
Just think... 70 men and women and most times the board is full of people off. Including taking ue's and cc's! We are busy and short all the time. And then they laid off five people. Planning. Haven't got through all outbound freight in two nights so tonight will be heavy and I know people will call off. I figure maybe 4-5 guys out of ten will show up.

Complaining is frowned upon at YRC. Someone from the union should have told you, you're supposed to be grateful to still have a job.

If one reads this you will see it was written by an idiot‼️Read the second paragraph specifically the part where it's for transporting a disabled person and not an employee that is disabled :lmao::biglaugh::clappy::clapping:

Ok,so I read and reread all the previous post regarding this matter and this is my take on your situation.
The company only wants to know if you are entitled to park in the handicapped designated area. As per Texas law,YOU may park in any handicapped designated area for any unlimited amount of time as long as YOU are the person with the disability and YOU have the appropriate placard or plate. Also, YOU, may park in any designated area, as long as a PERSON with a handicap is with you.No brainer.
If YOU are a fully functional person with no disabilities, but have a handicap or placard plate on your vehicle,to transport a disabled person by need to stores or appointments for their benefit, then YOU can`t and shouldn`t be parking in handicap spots when that person is not with you.
Just because you have a PLACARD or PLATE for handicap parking YOU need to use discretion how you use it.
If it`s for YOU and you need it, use it!
If it`s for convenience, think twice.
MY TAKE ON THIS: If you have a legit placard or plate that allows you to use the designated parking area, for YOU, that was issued to YOU by the State of Texas, then all you need to do is provide your parking privilege placard and nothing more. NO MEDICAL RECORDS WHAT SO EVER!

I don't think reasonable person would have a problem verifying their placard. It has your initials and four digits of you drivers license number. So why has the company made it so complicated?

We all can verify the placards we have. But they just won't take that for an answer.
I don't know why. We are all legal. And each has his own legal placard.
Yes. They are taking verification too far. All they have to do is read the placard.
That simple.

Thats what they do best.

I don`t believe this is about the validity of the plate or placard, but the use of the card.
Is the person who is driving the plated or placarded vehicle disabled or is that person circumventing the rules of placarding for their benefit( parking closer to where I want to go).
The bottom line is, not all people who drive a vehicle with handicapped plates are disabled but they transport people that are. When they are in the transporting mode then use the spots for the handicapped. When not doing that, park where I park.

We'll said, way too many people taking advantage of the handicap parking convenience.

When I started at New Penn 24 years ago one the older close to retirement teamsters and I got friendly he's been retired about 15 years now and one of the things he told me was absolutely right and I tell younger guys all the time.
"Watch what you do even more when it's slow because that's when they are bored and look for things to get you on"
It's what this sounds like one of those things a TM has time for.
