Hello to all.
Much has happened over the past couple of weeks. My partner and I applied with Hogan Transport and although I was hired, he did not pass his 'physical'. My overall impression of Hogan was.... AWESOME! Good Pay, amazing benefits, professionalism to the T, a well run company that appreciates it's employees. I do think that team drivers do much better financially than solo drivers. I was impressed all the way around and even though they did not hire us as a team, they deserve to be mentioned and highlighted.

My court date for my 'reckless driving' charge is this coming Tuesday and I have come to terms with the possibility of being convicted and losing my CDL. I believe that everything happens for a reason and this is just another 'test' of perseverance. Our 'old' company has hired us back (line haul drivers now in of speeding and it is all gone. Moved to Massachusetts and found an apartment 1/3 the size of what we had here in NC, for the same price. Long, cold and harsh winters are in my future once again and I'm down here in Greensboro to finish packing and to put the court stuff behind me. Next weekend is it for me. Saying good bye to this beautiful place is beyond heart wrenching for me and I feel little else besides profound sadness these days.
Started working at my 'new' terminal 8 days ago and literally had the week from hell. Just some really despicable and mean spirited behavior displayed by some of my co-workers, which is designed to gruel newcomers out. By last Thursday, I was devastated and had a melt down in front of my male dispatcher. Poor guy!!! But he was so understanding and told me that I was in fact welcomed by many people and that things would improve over time. So when I got home, I baked two batches of brownies to take to work on Friday, to show my appreciation to some, and defeat my enemies with a display of caring and kindness. My next step is to give out my personal cell number at work and to ask everyone to contact me directly with any concerns, or complains they might have. I refuse to engage in this adolescent behavior of them going behind my back to complain to my TM about... really nothing. There is no policy in our employee handbook that states that an employee can't implement his or her own policy of authentic communication, accountability and respect. As long as I can maintain my boundaries and not become an active participant in their games, I should be okay. Before all of this happened and when I was still in the TLO division, I used to make it a point of introducing myself to every new employee regardless of the position for which they were hired. I would shake their hand, welcome them to the company, give them my cell number and offered them my assistance whenever possible though the promise of open and honest communication. I can count on one hand how many of them have ever contacted me with any concerns or complaints but at the same time, some of them still text me from time to time and stay in touch, which means a lot to me. Bottom line is that it is always difficult to enter a 'new' place and atmosphere and the way that current employees treat you can make all of the difference about your entire job outlook and attitude from the start. I'm bound and determined to help create an atmosphere where respectful team work becomes not only a reality but also a priority on a day to day basis. I refuse to work in such a toxic environment long term and what keeps me going is the knowledge that I can be an agent for positive change.

Well, enough jabber for one day.

Best of luck on Tuesday, if you get beat up there you can appeal to the next level where they could be more willing to cop a plea and reduce it to something that lets you keep you license.

Tacomapup = My court date for my 'reckless driving' charge is this coming Tuesday and I have come to terms with the possibility of being convicted and losing my CDL.

GREETINGS Tacomapup,
Has your attorney/lawyer offered any possibilities of plea? Entering "guilty" without options of charge(s) reduced is insane.

I'm unfamiliar with the "commonwealth" laws as there used to be a "prayer for judgement" decision (in Cal., NC) that when offered resulted in lesser conviction and is a one time deal. Such "prayer" could not be used again in a specified time period or ever, I dunno.
79 in 70 zone is much better with less potential for License loss, well, using the unknown to any court attribute: logic.

Hoping you'll have a reduced result to help your future.

CHEERS!!

Hello to all. My court date is behind me and as it was put to me afterwards, was : 'Judge Saunders had a bad day'. I was convicted of reckless driving with 81 mph in a 70 zone. Originally, the charge was for 88 mph and had the Judge reduced it by just one more mile, I would have gotten a speeding conviction instead. But this was not to be and most others that day in court got 'nailed' as well. So now we are appealing the conviction in the higher court. The next hearing will be sometime in September and nothing changes between now and then. In other words, I get to keep my license and don't have to pay any court costs of fine right now.
The worst for me is that we had to give up living in Greensboro, NC. I LOVED living here, - our beautiful 3 bedroom apartment with vaulted ceilings, pool, tennis court and all the other perks that gated communities offer down here. I had also made some wonderful friends here and I will miss them terribly. My fiance' did not pass his physical (years of beating his body up for others and he's had too many surgeries and is full of arthritis) and so we went back to our old company to work for them. It's line hauling instead of TLO and we are working nights. But I'm home every day and live much closer to my daughter, which is a blessing. It'll take me a while to get used to living up north again. The winters... Bbbbrrrr!!!

I do want to quickly share my brief experience with Hogan transport. We went to St. Louis for training/ orientation and other than the fact that they didn't hire my partner; they were amazing and if they run their business the way they ran the training, I would highly recommend them. The benefits are above and beyond, the pay is excellent (for team drivers; do not know the rate for solo drivers) and they offer tons of perks to their employees. Everyone was very professional and their equipment is top notch and very well maintained. There is nothing in it for me by recommending them and I'm simply sharing my experience and impressions. I would have really liked working for them. Maybe some day...

I want to thank all of you for your nice thoughts and well wishes for my court date. Tomorrow is another day and so I move on.... that's life!

Which German dialect as there are three (or more)?
- - - -

"Trucker speak" for some minor homework.

CHEERS!!
No idea how many dialects there are in the German language, but it's definitely more than three. I speak 'high German' which is considered to be the 'cleanest' and clearest, with very little dialect. I actually grew up on islands off of the north coast in Germany. Many people do not realize that Germany has any islands but there are quite a few. For anyone interested, google Helgoland which is the island I lived on from age 10 until 18. It is approximately one square mile (yes, you are reading this correctly. Lol) in size and much of it is a sandstone mountain and tourist mecca. It is located several hours with a ship from the mainland and has a vast history. I'm actually going to Germany from the end of July until the end of August this year to visit my family and I have a trip to the island planned.

Thanks for the minor homework. Loving it!!! Lol

CHEERS!!

I haven't been on this site in a bit and just read your post. Now I'm curious and will ask my attorney about it. I think that either way, I had little chance of getting my charge changed. Apparently, someone stole all the marshmallows our of Judge Saunders Lucky Charm cereal and that put him in a rotten mood. Oh well. Thank you though!!! That was very sweet of you!

Thank you for the update and good luck on the appeal. My experience is that the next level has better things to do than hang a driver for speeding and they should be more cooperative. I have dealt with the DA at the next level rather than just the police and/or the judge and the DA has a completely different mindset. One time in NY I even got to deal with the DA at the local hearing with success (same fine, different charge, it is all about budgets and the money anymore). But I didn't have to notify anyone about my ticket.

And thanks for the information on Deutchland, I like to travel and enjoy hearing about other places in the world, particularly those roads less traveled. Stop in and visit with us once in a while and definitely update us with the outcome of your appeal.

And happy Memorial Day. :guiness:
