Geez, congrads!
Their are alot of good people on this forum that drive for ConWay that can give you tips of the ins and outs of the job.
Good Luck!!!!!!

here's the deal conway guys. when i put my application in at conway, i also put an application in at yellow which is right next door to conway in raleigh/durham. well, while i was waiting for the decision to be made by conway, yellow called and i went in and had an interview and took the drug test. i'm waiting on the drug test now. of course it's part-time work on the dock to start. yellow said they would need me to work on friday night and sunday afternoon. well, the tm at yellow told me that if i get the job at conway that they (conway) might have a problem with me working part-time at yellow. union vs. non-union. so, i start at conway wednesday morning and i'm going to tell them that i have the opportunity to pick up extra hours at yellow on the weekend. has anyone encountered this problem before? the tm at yellow told me that guys used to work at 2 or 3 different terminals/companies to make a little more money. will conway have a problem with this situation? if they do, is there any way that my job could be in jeopardy? i didn't read anything in the paperwork that said i could not work for a union company part-time while i work for conway. anyone have any opinions?

yes! it is in conway policy. you cannot work for another transportation co. while employed here. 'conflict of intrest'

10-4!! Last year, we had a guy give 2 weeks notice because he stated he was going to work for Yellow Freight and he was escorted off the property immediately! Don't do it if you want to work at Con-Way...

one question:

the tm at conway told me that i would make OT after 50hrs work in a week. isn't that against OOSHA rules to not pay 1.5x after 40 hours? i'm not trying to be greedy, just wondering how they might work. any ideas?

It is not a matter of greed...it is a federal law to reciece overtime after 40,but somehow the freight companies are exempt from that law.

good luck!

I've been with c-w for a little over 6mos now, and while it was hard at first (and I still bust *** pretty much all day) I just got a 12PM start time for p&d, so it's starting to come around. Plus the healthcare can't be beat... :)

Good luck! I've been with c-w for a little over 6mos, and while it's hard work, and the hours were definitely short for a while, I just recently got a 12PM start doing p&d, so it does get easier... And the healthcare bennies are unreal... :)

It all depends on where you live. that is how they do it at cse. you run a 70 hour log, thats how they get away with it.

mpwelsh, Overtime pay has nothing to do with OSHA. Overtime is governed by the Dept of Labor.

The problem is that there are certain industries that are exempt from overtime laws. 3 That I know of are military, farming and transportation.
Thats how these companies avoid paying overtime.

I hope this helps

Day one spent watching orientation videos and training videos along with taking quizzes. Filled out alot of paperwork and got my name put into the system. i can't complain though, I got paid 16.50/hr for 8.5 hours to do it. this morning i go in and i think it's going to be alot of the same. also, i didn't know it but i got a $2000 sign on bonus. i get 1000 after 6 months regular and another 1000 after a full year regular. so, that was a pleasant surprise. also, i make 36cpm to start out. anyone have any ideas when the raises come? after 6mos. or a year?

Just to enlighten you about that bonus. As you stated, it is after 6 months as a REGULAR, so I would assume that means after any probationary time you will serve.
I am sure someone can let you know if there are any written rules for probation or casual time and the length of time for the wage progression.
Hope your terminal is busier then some of the others who post on this site.
Good luck !

Hello to all. I graduated from truck driver training school at ASU-Newport earlier this year and have been searching for a local job since then. I have been searching the messages on this board as well as classadrivers and I have heard a lot of good things about Conway, and so I went in to fill out the application today. Everything went well. I filled out all the paperwork and I have an interview tomorrow at Noon! I'm pumped. I really like the idea of driver/dock work. Seems like it would keep things interesting. I've heard that times are a little slow right now, but I'm going to give it a shot. I'll keep everyone updated on my progress!
Just for the record I would not recommend this company to anyone. But if you think that this place is for you go ahead fair warning you will be sitting at home more than you would be working. If you you don't believ

this all depends on which sic you work at. I work at a chicagoland sic and no one sits home.at the very least they get out 3 days and get 6 hours the other 2. but this is rare.it all depends on where you work and the freight volume. Ive been here 13 1/2 years. I don't think it that bad of a place to work. No job is perfect. just remember that the co. is here to make money, just like we are. I've worked for alot worse co. for alot less money. Its all what you make of it.

i'm working at NRD (raleigh-durham). there is more than enough work to go around at this terminal. in fact, NRD is hiring drivers in order to relieve some guys. so, it is true that work load is based on what terminal you work out of. i went in today for my second day of orientation and worked the dock the last four hours because they were short guys. on my second day! so, i recommend conway to anyone.
