I don`t know if it`s true or not,but I tend to believe it,so here goes.Supposidly a Buffalo "Teamster" with 18 yrs seniorty wrote a letter to James Welsh, president and C.E.O. of Yellow Transportation Inc.to inform him that the company should have a "Team" operation at the Buf. distribution center.I don`t know who this person is but I would like to tell him that this is one of the reasons that our brothers do not like Buffallo. You are a Union employee, your job is to drive a truck and to move the companies freight,in acordence with the National Master Freight Agreement that the Union fights very hard to get for you.Yellow hires colledge educated people to make these decisions, not truck drivers.Anyone who does things like this is not a true Teamster,at best he`s a dumbass Teamster. This is the second time that I have heard of guys from Buf.writing to company executives and hurting Union brothers, and I for one will not stand for this conduct,I am sick and tired of being put down by my brothers from other locals because I work out of Buf. because of guys like you.The best advice I can give is to Report to work when told to do so ,Get your bills ,Do your pre trip, and go to your destination saftely, and keep your Fu@#$%^ mouth shut. And when you get to the motel you may enjoy some good reading,"The Union Constitution, for one and The Union Contract for another. And I will have no problem with bringing guys like this up on charges in the union ,because they`re not true brothers ,they don`t know the meaning of the word.Union is about Us,not ME.

You can call him a dumbass if you wish....BUT...do not use Teamster behind it please!........KK :realmad:

yo bufbill..............

do the math...........

as much love as i have for BUF drivers i gotta tell you this....

no homegrown buffalo driver has a higher seniority date than december 1989, prior to that, BUF was an end of line terminal only (look at your seniority board)....

if the guy has 18 years he must be a 'transplant'.....

take a look at how much of an overwhelming success c/f's buffalo sleeper operation was............

mikeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Mikeee for once I agree with you,no BUF driver I know would wish Teams on us.The extra board should not blame their fellow drivers for the slowdown,we don't dispatch.

Please do not slam me here, I am not a Teamster, so I am a little confused. What did this guy do wrong ??

FoftheF; for fear of the firestorm this will cause; nothing, in my opinion. (Of course, I'm not at all aware of Road Rules, only city)....From my perspective-- it is the job of every Teamster to suggest ways for the company to improve things so they/WE can stay in business. The part of Buf's post about only college grads making suggestions, and Teamsters only job is to drive the truck is one of the most ridiculous statements I've ever read on here........I've been thru too many companies closing to sit and watch another sink because of some antiquated unwritten rule that's 60-80 years old; and about as needed as steel tires.......today's business changes hourly. Teamsters see the needs faster than management--- we're on the street meeting the customers.......even then, management makes the ultimate decisions.....and from I've seen-- they pretty much do what they were going to do anyway......

Having said that; I realize he's in a bad spot workwise (from reading his posts for the past 6 months)....and is probably going thru quite a bit of resentment of almost anyone.........

The problem is pretty simple to see. The union benefits from work rules that make the job more convoluted, ie: if a placard isn't flipped over instead of flipping it and going down the road you have to walk back to dispatch, tell them the problem, they put in on the list for the hostelers, they get to it and in the end you have taken up about 30 minutes in most breakbulks. Add another delay, and if you are a good teamster and take all of your contractural breaks, the freight might not make it's destination because you will run out of your 14 on some runs.

The union benefits frrom INEFFICENCY. And when the company gets inefficent enough, it will go out of business.

The NFMA is a great thing, but it shouldn't be a mutual ******* pact.

And no, I don't have the answers.

I must be missing something here.Is it because he (bufbill) doesn'twant sleepers in buffy or,the fact that he took it upon himself to write to management about it?I would agree with bill that it shouldn't been done.He should have asked the union reps. opinion first! On the other if it's good for the men and there's some jobs gained which by the way there should be,then bufbill shouldn't have a problem with it!Job "gains" being the key word here.

Gentelmen,I read all of your replys and I don`t think that I made my point.First off I apologize for using dumbass and teamster in the same sentence.Next ,teams in Buf is not an issue with me ,asI stated the company hires colledge educated people to make these "decisions" not suggestions. And they will get it their way anyway. If a guy wants to make a suggestion to his superviser about something that will make the company more profitable, such as sales leads or safety,to name a couple things is not an issue with me.I am not in a bad workplace,I made the choice to work here and I get along with all the guys I work with. For the non union guys that don`t understand what i`m trying to say I will try to explain. When we join the Teamsters we take an oath, kind of like a doctor or a lawyer. And one part of that oath says"to never knowingly harm a fellow member" and that is why I posted this thread. When people take it upon themselves to go outside the bargaining unit and write letters to top executives of the company.it eventually ends up "harming a fellow member" and when that happens I do have Resentment. One example and then I`ll go.Years ago a Buf driver wrote a letter to O.J. Simpson, then V.P. of opps. I believe. That letter made i`ts way to the Cve bulletinboard, after transfering to Buf from Cve I was confronted by a brother from Cve ,while waiting for the van in Cgb,and was called everything from a **** to a scumbag because of that letter. We worked out the problem, but if the letter was not wrote the problem would never happened,And Jimmy,if you really read my posts ,the resentment only goes to the 1per cent who do not know how to conduct themselves as true Teamsters.

BufBill, don't you realize it yet,CVE has never liked BUF and never will. And CVE gets their behinds kissed!Never understood that!!

How about they put sleeper teams in the end of the line terninals and leave the breakbulks alone
Hate to break it to ya, but 90% of what us sleepr guys do is run between breakbulks, with express freight.

The key to BUF being disliked throughout the system is their glaring lack of work rules, and the acceptance of this by the workers there.

Any attempts to change the rules are met with resistance and outright hostility.

BY THE TEAMSTERS MEMBERS AND LOCAL!!!!!

The only thing that has even gotten to a "survey" is a proposal to change the time of year we bid, and this is being done only because a "friend" of the union screwed up his bid and doesn't want to be on his run come winter time.

At least CVE has some rules that put labor and management on an equal footing. Buffalo is just like a non union shop with great insurance.

Hey, it's their local. If the majority wants it that way, it surprises me, but it's THEIR business, not mine.........if the majority does NOT want it that way, maybe they need to go to the meetings and force a change. :realmad: :bicycle:

BUF has hardly ever been a minus.....

when the road operation started in 1989 there were 22 drivers.....

how many are there now??????
