Estes | What do you Love about working here? What do you Hate about working here?

Just a suggestion. .you could call CLC ahead of time and they will find you a room. They'll fax hotel your information so you'll be all set by the time you get there.[/QUOTE
. Have your terminal Xerox a copy of a temp card and use it till you get your hard card. That's what i did

I'm still new to LTL trucking...but so far, I'm VERY HAPPY with it here. Yes, it has been really stressful, being 'thrown to the wolves' and figure it all out on my own....but glad I have experience and have been very close to most of the terms I've been to....only had 1 that didn't show up on GPS and followed directions right in...and that was Jacksonville! I have NO complaints.....I just started but...being able to get out of the truck EACH DAY and hang in a room, than a truck, fight for parking, etc is sooo much better and the pay is so much better...plus I don't hafta make a good fresh Walmart bag o' pooh somewhere anymore! haha

can someone explain to me why, lately, when it's time to go home, they send me out west? Suppose to start working my way towards Greensboro on Sunday, but they start sending me in the total opposite direction? Been that way for the past 3 weeks.....

Join the crowd driver. It's that way for me as well. It seems like all the good stuff is available on the weekends. If you want to go feel free to stay out and go. I love home too much to stay out anymore though.

I actually LOVE driving on the weekends(so much LESS HASSLE)....I don't miss home too much, my only thing is my kids(daughter turned 1 TODAY, and son turns 8 in a month in a half). I just want to be a 'somewhat' Dad, since my job I can't be around much...it's all good. Now if only I can get the wife to MOVE out of NC is the trick. haha I HATE NC, been here too long have lived in other places and liked them ALOT MORE than here....but time will tell!

Do you tell them your due home??I never had a problem after I told them that.

yeah...everyweek.....just stinks I hafta remind then....no worries. Just glad ALL 'the kinks' are finally worked out and everything is normal. Get my shirts by Monday? Bill Turner ordered me some Monday.....got insurance all signed for(should be starting August 1st) and all I need is to sign up for 401K by end of August, transfer my account and then EVERYTHING will be back to normal! Been a crazy transition.....but ya gotta 'live and learn'. Can't complain ONE BIT about any of my paychecks! Whenever it was a 5 check month, EPES ALWAYS made sure you had low miles that month....don't see that happening. Yeah, I know it'll get slow from Jan-March...always is with trucking....but still a low mile week check HERE is WAY BETTER than a low mile week in General Freight....I'm sure all of you can relate or know exactly what I'm talking about! haha Just started out so....hope everyone has a good week, or weekend.....or whatever you are here! haha

Heard they won't run any East guys any farther west than Salt Lake cause west coast guys complained. Just what heard. Can't run gliders in California. Always thought if the drivers wanted to stay out then run them. Freight makes service and claim free equals happy customers

oh yeah...my 'glider' IS NOT cali compliant! No DEF! haha wife is going out of the country next month...thinking of staying out for 2 weeks...got someone to watch the little ones......but just scared they run me too hard and don't get home for 3 weeks. haha

I ran extra last year. I'm domiciled east of the MS. I made it as far west as Vegas and SLC. They would've sent me further but it was time to go back.

quick question for guys that do or have ran extra....I was suppose to leave last night....always have left between midnight and 0300 but have kept calling and nothing....still 8 guys ahead of me as of 0930? I'm kinda lost here. Why was there never a problem with me leaving and looks like I'll lose a whole days pay. Doubt I'll leave this afternoon....so just gonna wait until tonight and call....although they keep saying they will call me. Only once did I call Central and they said go on in....got there and they said go home....you don't have anything.

It happens sometimes in LTL. It'll happen a lot more in the winter. Save a few bucks every week and get ready. It's feast or famine out here.

Keep calling. They probably won't call you. Bother them.

If central told you to come in and the terminal told you to go home, you need to go out in parking lot and call central back and (nicely) ask them what happened. The terminals are supposed to do what central wants. Central might have sent you empty somewhere where there was freight. Don't be afraid to be the guy who wants to work. They might get aggravated at you but they'll remember who you are when it gets busy.

This has been off and on since winter in St. Louis. I am wed. start still waiting.

If central told you to go in, Call them back before going back home.

It must be election year concerns (that is so slow). That is what i am telling myself. Good luck getting out.

Central will let you stay out if you are willing to. I stayed out when it was real slow over winter.
It is not fun but the money is there when you restart on the road.

What those guys said ^^^. If it's like this now I can't imagine how slow September- November will be. I think everyone on the board has spent a day on the road doing nothing. It be like that sometimes.

ok cool....I keep checking and nothing...so tonight I'm gonna call....THEN call Central and explain........I'll be gone tonight...only got 700 for this week and NOW only got 2 days to make up for it!

If we had a larger, newer terminal, with a clean and smooth yard-- life would be close to perfect. We honestly need about 120 to 150 doors to effectively run the hub operation, and set up for city/inbound.
With this amount of doors, outbound (non hub) trailers could be unloaded simultaneously with the hub loads, and staged to be loaded as city frieght. At this rate, the early cut/volume city freight would be able to be loaded by 5 or 6 am at the latest...
There could be 2 dock workers loading the city freight, starting at around 4 am.... Organize what was unloaded from hub and outbound-- then load the volume and early cut p&d runs. The drivers could hit the street by 7 or 8 am, and not have to work the dock, have their deliveries off earlier, and be available for pickups much earlier.

I am nothing but a yard spotter, that has worked the dock, and been a P&D driver at another company-- and I can figure out a more efficient way to make things work with minimal chaos. No college degree or management experience at all.... Hmmmm, think about that for a minute.

I can't stand dealing with the chaos and daily frustration of everyone involved with the hub operation. It is truly ridiculous why the company won't spend the money to move to a larger facility in better condition.
The yard has been overrun by crater sized potholes...Honestly it has become unbearable.

South Bend 127 summed up in one sentence?
10 pounds of poo, in a 5 pound bag.

I love working for Estes. I've been here 9 years now and I would love to be able to retire here, but recently it has seemed that people up on the higher level are really nit picking and are really having issues over the smallest things. Seems like they regret giving us drivers such good raises and are putting soo much more job tasks to make up for it. They do not look after and protect the driver like other companies do.

The company is starting to nit pick a little bit more since I've been here but I just got a schedule and just saw my raise today and I, uh, don't think I'll be complaining anytime soon.
