TForce | Why do UPS drivers go so slow?

Im with ya brother. Ive had days where the slow lane was AOK. Then those days where allthought it would upset quite a few shiney wheels, stayed one lane over.:bye1:

Well you have the hourly (the slow ones) and then you have the mileage ones. They will pass you anywhere they can as fast as they can. And most of their trucks are 72 or better. So money talks more than safety. Wish it didn't but.......
just out of curriosity, why are some runs hourly and other mileage? do the hourly runs have to run a lot of skinny roads or something?

The ones that are moving at the speed limit are hourly. The ones that are moving at what they want are mileage. 705 union says no longer than 4 hours out and must turn. 710 is long haul and no restrictions. Plus there computers are watching them and depending on what barn your out of is if there paying attention. ups frieght trucks will have the computers in by the end of next year. pal road driver.

Whatever happens over the speed limit.
The blame is always on the professional driver.

No matter whos really at fault speed is a determaning factor, to who the final blame goes too.

For if regular private citizen drivers make an error, and you where doing the seed limit, you may of been able to avoid an accident.
With accidents involving trucks,if the trucker didn't take the last course of action to avoid the accident even if it wasn't his fault to begin with ,the truckdriver may also share some,or all of the blame.

Just a point to keep in mind if you are paid by the mile,or by the hour, your always better off obeying all the traffic laws.

To disobey these laws could be a life changing experence, not only for you,but for all the drivers you may come in contact with during your driving shift.

I think they are running as fast as they can but U P S wants them not to pass their truck.

Additionally, UPS tractors are equipped with a computer system that records speed, engine RPM, braking pressure and information on many other components. That information can and will be used against you if you become involved in an accident. So, it's best to be safe, obey the law and UPS Safety Policies, always.

With the Computers on todays engines, and the cost of tickets Why even ask why truck drivers and UPS drivers in general drive 55 mpg. Personally I'm probably passed more than anyone in my terminal by the other company drivers and other road drivers I will survive the onslot of goverment red tape and hotshot rookie cops

How many times I've been driving on our local expressways in the winter months.
To have cars wizzing by me,and a short ways down the road.
I see them stuck way off the side of the highway.
Funny how far these drivers can get themselves into the median.

The faster they drive the farther out they can slide.
As much as I want to wave bye,bye as I slowly drive by them, for some reason they never seem to be looking my way?

Now if they would bide there time, and just stay behind me.
Because I have this old saying.
The faster it snows, the slower I goes.

Heres another tid bit thats always a good rule, regardless what the weather,or the road conditions.
"Its much faster to drive slow, than it is to make out a police report"

Well speeding NEVER makes good common sense. IF you arrive at all, it will probably be no more than 5 or 6 minutes earlier than if you had driven the posted speed limit. The downside is the possibility of losing your life or someones elses, getting a ticket, increased insurance rates, a moving violation on your record, to name a few. So relax, enjoy the day and count your blessings!:smile1:

So greezy trucker, are you an accident free million miler?
The law of averages says if you run like crazy, your going to have a crash sooner,or later.
9 times out of 10 you may do it your way,but when number 10 comes, lets hope you,and whoever is on the road with you will be able to walk away!!

I think GT was just kidding guys.

An accident free million mile'er could have had some accidents or close calls. No one was around to see them.

I had a real silly accident a few years ago.
I was backing in a very small parking lot, between two 53 foot trailers.

There were post on the edge of this lot.
Tall ones you could see from your windsheild, and smaller ones that were just above bumper hight.

Just as I was starting to come around from lining my trailer up to the open dock spot.
I found the smaller post, that I wasn't paying any attention to when I pulled into the back parking area.

I only have deliveries at this company once in a great while.

The time I delivered before this, there were no posts, but their fence was pushed over in a lot of sections down their lot line.

Well back to my tractor bumper.
I have an old VOLVO with a steel bumper, which was now sticking straight out in front so I could see it out of my windshield.

I backed to the dock, made my delivery, than pulled back out at an angle with the post I caught.

I prayed, and asked for Gods help.
I than drove ahead, bending the bumper back.

The bumper was almost back to normal thank God,the fiberglass on my right fender section was broken,I bought some filler, sanded it down,on my own time of course, rubbed out the yellow paint from the post, than repainted with a blue spray can.

I did report the accident when it first happened, but had everything fixed up before I had to make out a report.

The pole I caught just had a paint scrap, along with others from drivers before me that found it first.
The customer said forget it.

I wasn't the first,and he said I won't be the last.

It was a lot of work, but this stupid mistake of misjudgement isn't on my record.
