I think if you serious and you truly want your money to make a difference send it directly to the Red Cross earmarked for Harvey relief. Sending money through and Employer, website or church for that matter is not assuring 100% of your money is getting to the victims. Just my 2 cents.

Ain't no way in hell I'll give PTO hours for relief. That's a slap in the face to me. I will give to Red Cross, etc ear marked for victims!
I see this as a ploy by the company to get people to use their PTO, getting out of having to pay for a worker when you did use that time.
I didn't want to say but I agree.
Yeah that's the first thing I thought of too, it's pretty disgraceful on XPO's part.

Neither is giving it to the Red Cross. Every charity has overhead.
According to the email I saw, 100% of the money will go to XPO employees, and it's tax deductible. Sounds to me like a real, tangible way to help out a co-worker, unlike some other ideas I've seen.

How can you possibly take that personally?? That's like going to a restaurant and taking offense because you don't like asparagus. Just don't order it.
Is it or is it not a voluntary, charitable donation? It takes a lot of effort to try to spin this as an evil plot, and there's no way to do so that makes any sense.
It must be exhausting being so cynical.

How valuable time is , especially your own. PTO is a reflection of that. You can work overtime and earn extra money ( if you are hourly Gene ) but you can't earn extra paid time off as simple as that. That makes it more valuable , because it's harder to replace.
At a lot of locations it feels like there is an overall strategy to prevent usage of PTO time. Also recent changes and proposed changes seem to target PTO.
Why? The more you are at work , the less people the company needs to hire. EBITDA

Well I'll be the first to admit that i did donate some of my PTO.
In my opion i hope my donation help's someone in need. If the company want's to scam us out of PTO or Money by not helping the one's in need, Then that's on them and they'll have to live with it. People are need now and they'll be in need tomorrow. It's about us who aren't dealing with having our world's turn upside down.
My heart dropped when i read that a child was clinging to her dead mother.
So if you guy's are going to help . just help in your own way. But please help.

My wife's company is doing a dollar for dollar match and we were able to make a sizable donation that way with the money going directly to the Red Cross. That might be an option if your spouses company is doing that I found out a bunch of companies are. I urge everyone to give the best way you see fit but do give.
This is a common practice at alot of companies. My sister's employer had an office burn down in another location they allowed people to donate their PTO time to those people so they wouldn't be out so much money while the office was shut. The people out of work get to use the donated time as their own. When my wife's mother was sick her co-workers donated PTO to her so she could take care of her and not lose a ton of money.
I understand certain suspicions but look into it first. If I lived in Houston or an effected terminal I would love for co-workers elsewhere to donate me PTO time so I didn't have to take bunch of unpaid time off. It also gives drivers who may not have alot of cash at their disposal a way to help when they wouldn't be able to otherwise. I hope you guys will see the sense in what I'm saying and not just call me a company butt kisser because I think this is a good thing.
You are absolutely right, these money grubbing, greedy, noncaring, pieces of crap that we work for. What was I thinking.
