In doing a little research (google), I find it amazing that the L-G fact states that "deals with the relationship of a union and its members'...addresses widespread corruption and autocratic methods in unions dealing with its members...wow...both of these acts also address union officials and bribes...wow..still pertinent today even after all those years...they "count the votes" and like "Turncoat" says, they count them until they get what they want...Opinions please? Bubba Gump?

The Taft-Hartley Act was passed first,.....over President Truman’s veto.

Landrum-Griffin requires Unions to adhere to transparency and fiduciary rules established by Congress..........ostensibly to “eliminate” corruption in Labor Unions.

How different our country would be if corporations were held to the same standards imposed on Unions.........

As you probably see by your research,......Unions have been under attack in this country for at least two centuries. Buisiness owners never liked the idea of those sweaty, stinky workers having First Amendment rights .......

But,.......there is some good out of those two Acts......

If you’re going to cheat your members, you’ve violated Federal law. Both Acts codified the narrow limits and stringent requirements. Prior to the passage of both Acts,.....the common legal tool was to file a racketeering charge,........and then hire lawyers to.......”fish”.........for evidence of a crime......

Landrum-Griffin was a terrible imposition and an economic burden ............if your Union was run honestly..........

One thing,.........with all the reporting requirements, and forced transparency,........Unions,........by default,.......have the moral “high ground”, when it comes to proper economic operation and accountability to it’s members.......as opposed to how.....”accountable”.......a corporation is to it’s employees.......

I don't think our Union is in the position these days to strike, however, they still carry enough "clout" to enforce our contracts with their collective bargaining power, at least for the meantime. On the other "hand" the companies have to offer a "little" more than the non-union competition to be able to hire, and even YRC is hiring again. ArcBest does have the highest labor costs per man hour in the industry, union and management, so they're going to negotiate for the best they can get. ABF's vetting process and compensation package does help them hire more "above average Joes" we'll just use that moniker for better drivers. Hope I don't offend any "below average Joes" or anyone named Joe for that matter. I did hear that the negotiations will involve a proposal changing pension contributions for new hires to 401k and those with less than 10 yrs. vested will be given a couple of different options and the current contract will have to extend to get these details figured out and it's surely not going through on one vote. ABF/ArcBest's position is the pension is never going to benefit it's drivers that much....if at all, especially those with less than 10 yrs. And, in their benevolence they want to help them? When I asked my BA, he said "I don't think the International is going to go along with that....but, in a negotiation, "if" (he said "if", playing ignorant of any knowledge of said proposal) the company has proposed it, they will have to consider it....that's all, and you can never, say never." Personally, he didn't think it would fly. I'm not so sure either, but it's going to get some serious consideration I think. I think they gonna start chewing on that next. But after that "salvage operation" that went down at YRC to keep as many "dues payers" on the rolls as possible and the "givebacks" at ABF last time....we done got a "fox in the henhouse" as we say down in Mayberry, and I won't be shocked by anything that gets put up for a vote. There has never been any "corruption", union, corporate, government or otherwise", and they count them votes in Washington D.C. and I'm told they got good honest "counters" up there you know. I heard once at Yellow that a TM, a union driver, and a shipping clerk got fired in a lawn mower theft ring, but I never thought it was true! It was some kind of set up deal to frame them guys! "Corruption" is way over "hyped"....in my opinion. There you go 6Pak...the "alternative facts" for your entertainment. Be careful with that research, we'll get educated above our intelligence, but that Googler thing is pretty cool and only downloads the real facts off that Internet thing, you can bank on that!:concern:

Turn Coat just wondering who's side of the fence your local is on ? Hoffa/ Teamsters United/ TDU ?
Also how many were on your seniority board at YRC ?

He's already told us that YRC (both Yellow and Roadway) has 8.. that would be 4 for Yellow, 4 for Roadway in the old days..ABF has 5...13 union drivers in Mayberry? Come on now..not exactly a hot bed of union activity to have such a know it all attitude....Those guys will vote for anything the companies throw out...no backbone to stand up..some of the highest paid drivers around...Their $40 thousand (not to be confused with a 401K) tricked out pickup and the manufactured home with granite countertops and stainless steel appliance won't let them be out of a paycheck long enough for a strike....just sayin'

you make some excellent points...
1. Eliminate corruption in Labor Unions (well, that one ain't worked out too good up to this point in time)
2. Those d*amn lawyers and the "fishing" done...fish ain't biting too good)...try a different "lure"
3. "if your union was run honestly"
5. It would be g-r-e-a-t if corporations were held to the same standards imposed on union...just because it it "imposed" didn't mean it happened...good intentions, though

the last sentence is something pretty astute for a good ole Mayberry boy that (by your own admission) barely graduated high school"?

Well...not that I was not able to pass...I just preferred hunting and fishing...and back then drinking too much beer, it was more a truancy problem....but Daddy was an old Union paper mill hand....so getting that diploma was...."non-negotiable" and I knew he would "strike" my A$$, pun intended, but anyway I thought the topic was "union corruption?" Something is amiss somewhere? These deals get voted in, but I am the only one that votes yes, and my local cancels me 20-6. I mean nobody I ever talk to votes Yes, they all vote No, every time. I guess they just mark all the non-votes Yes...maybe we need a "Get out the Vote" campaign along with the F-em' let's strike campaign.

Local 612 was a "No" 20-6 looks like 100% participating...no corruption down here!

Officers campaign for Hoffa. Local 612 was a "No" 20-6 on the last ABF contract, 6 in our pony shed and I'm thinking must be 20 on B'ham board. (Larger pole barn) Looks like 100% participating...no corruption down here! I left YRC in July 2011. But, I personally don't know anyone that says they voted for the contract, but I don't ask, I just get told that voluntarily. Personally I think Teamsters United has the best website and propaganda, cool hats and T-shirts. Never heard of the guy their promoting, but hear he's against corruption. Might vote for him.

Sounds like your in the good ol boy size terminals. Nothing wrong with that.
I started out in Mayberry and ended up on a 500 man and 3 women seniority board.
222 is Hoffa local

Visit the big barn every M-F night....grievance settlements posted on the bulletin board looks like a magazine hanging up there....I'm thinking them ladies and gentlemen over there would be ready to "strike" yesterday, but nothing too political there at night. Maybe the political group is mostly on day shift or maybe over at linehaul. I get my stuff done and promptly head for the truckstop. I address everyone as "Sir" and "Mam" Good folks over there, haven't noticed any corruption, a few sleepy and grumpy sometimes, but it's after midnight, so I don't take anything personal and all.

What??? Where’s #4???!

Typo..but canary made such a good observation that about 4 more could be taken from his context..

Not sure if a typo or this poor 'ol truck driver can't count anymore..we are told to UTC and SLC..I guess that got my countin' ability down!
Just be absolutely sure your fish count is right when you see the green boat with the blue light bar coming up the river...

Sounds good. Just wanted to make sure we weren’t missing out on what that #4 was....like, maybe it bestowed immortality or something.

Update gentlemen,.........I’m still the Local #30 PAC Fund treasurer, and we are in the Lamb- Saccone race in W. Penna. We’ve endorsed Mr. Lamb........

Hold our breath tonight........

Rick Saccone said today after he voted, that “Democrats hate Trump, America, and even God...”

Good Grief! Let’s hope the.....adult.....in this race wins......

Sorry about butting politics in,.....but I might be incommunicado for a day or so........

O.K. I'm back from my little political escapade helping on the phone banks. Looks like our man won,....by a razor-thin edge.

Of course there'll be a re-count,........Deep Dark Conspiracy if "certain people" don't win.........

Lesson........Be An Active Union Man. One broke-down grey-haired diesel dummy like me.........CAN......make a difference..(..As long as I take the time to speak up..)....

YOU CAN, TOO!

No mandatory recounts on district votes, unless it's petitioned. Yup your right. A close race will always be petitioned...
