Hearing about layoffs in Knoxville and Nashville. Anyone else hearing about other terminals having layoffs? So far after all the excitement things don't seem to be going well. I know everyone seems to say give it time, but that does'nt help those who are losing their job now. I was always told by the Fed-Ex freight guys around here that Fed-Ex did'nt like to lay-off guess that must be changing now. Well best of luck to all and hope things get better.

Well not sure if any of them are in any condition to re-locate but the system is 93 drivers short right now so I bet if any of them are interested they could check to see which terminals are short and possibly transfer if it seems like the layoff will be for any length of time. They can call HR or their district manager and they would be able to give them more details.

i been with fedex frt for 9 years never seen a layoff had guys sit at home but are terminal mgr said they were talking about layoffs by january.

Things are slow for everyone right now, no matter who owns you. If Watkins laid off in the past they will most likely continue to do so, FX usually just builds on what already exists.

We are slow at Freight also, they have been asking for volunteers to take off, bill count was up at the beginning of this week and they got a scare that maybe they let too many off, lol, feast or famine....

I have been at FXFE for almost 12 yrs and never seen a layoff

Not sure about the rest of you guys but I read an email today that was sent stating in the next 2 weeks they expect freight levels to go up tremendously. It also said the bid road drivers had to be available for extra work if it is there. The busy season is coming fast so hang in there and in another month we will be back to reading post about to much OT

I have been at freight 15 years . One layoff and that was 11 years ago. It was during the switch to shuddle drivers and few dockworkers were let go. I have not heard anything about layoffs If I do I will post it.

I have been with Viking / FedEx for over 23 years and only once did I even here about any one getting laid off and that was line drivers that were not working that supposedly asked for it so that they could receive unemployment .

Did not know anyone that did this so I am not sure if it was even fact but it was a good 10 to fifteen years ago

Thats impressive

What happens at Freight doesnt pertain to National.Maybe National will lay off. The no layoff at Freight stems from American Freightways. National will make more than Freight, and get their old junk equipment paid for sight unseen. There will be some "weeding out" at National for sure.National will get parted out and integrated .We bought Watkins for Canada and thats it.And the slow service that is cheap, called"longhaul" is an afterthought.

LOL thats about all I can say. Funny how you guys seem to think all we will get is your old trucks. It's peoples attitudes like yours that put a bad taste in some peoples mouth. Dont sell National short or think we are just some little company just getting by. And please explain how we will be parted out I am interested in hearing more about this. And as far as the longhaul goes do you think Watkins got where they did by offering "cheap" rates?

Our pay here at National does not pertain to Freight. The great pay stems from Watkins. Oh and I drive a new truck that was also bought sight unseen and it's a twin screw to boot.

Not sure where you got this but you might want to rethink your statement. First FedEx freight desperately needed a long haul division the spoke and hub system that American and Viking have used for years is great for the two and three day lanes but moving freight across country that way is costly and inefficient. The Canadian rights were also needed desperately since Day and Ross is an interline carrier and FedEx wants to move their freight directly and in my opinion Day and Ross is not a class carrier that FedEx needs to be associated with.

Finally I would take Watkins equipment over most of the P trailers that we see on the west coast most are junk. I am sure that they served American well but it is time to get some new stuff.

As far as lying off I never worked for Watkins only going by what I have been told, but it sounds like their philosophy is a lot like Viking and American. My guess is that laying off employees in not something that you will see there either.

FEDEX did not pay 780 million for a company to put it out of business, every thing FEDEX touches turns to gold and Watkins will be no exception

I agree Jeff, I can see a day where Freight could integrate some of Nationals services but this would only make them even larger. As far as parting them out it sounds like some one is bitter about something.

My prediction is FedEx will buy an OTR carrier like USXI next and will offer every type of freight service the customer wants. You will get the two and three day service from freight you will get the cross country service from national and you will get your truck load service from ( soon to be announced ) FedEx truckload services .

If you want to move it call FedEx and we will move it that will be there new slogan. I say buy your stock now because it is only going to get bigger and better. My only regret is that I did not buy when Fred Smith first went public because it has been one heck of a ride if you look at the company history.

Watkins is no American Freightways. You will see so many personnel changes you wont believe it.

I dont think anyone was saying Watkins was AF so I am a bit confused about your post. And changes will come no doubt that's a gimme there but you seem to be a bit negative about Watkins as a company and I could be wrong but your post about National/Watkins do not seem very positive. If I am wrong I apologize for my comments.

Not sure what you are talking about, I have been with Viking / FedEx for over 23 years and we were told the same thing by the nay Sayers when FedEx bought Viking which was before they bought American. Sure we have seen many changes over the years and I am guessing we will see many more but I cannot think of any that were disruptive or bad for the employees or the customers. They did not fire or lay off dockworkers or drivers but in fact on the west coast we cannot not hire enough to fill the positions that we need.

Managers were not fired and replaced by express but we do have the selling power of one of the largest companies in the world and this has increased the revenue many times over years earlier. The equipment has been up graded to some of the best in the industry, and on the IT side computers and programs that we use are envied by other freight companies all over the country

FedEx freight is growing yearly and has even out paced express so if you are saying that FedEx bought Watkins to get rid of them you better start talking to people that really know what is going on at Freight like Doug or go to some of the big wigs in the east like Terry and talk to the ones that make these decisions and see if they would agree with you, I doubt it.

Not sure who you really are fastmover but you are not as informed as you think you are if you are here to spread unfounded rumors try again if you are just uninformed try asking people that really know what is going on instead of making them up .
