been hearing reports that safety has memo going around saying to write us up if we are seen on company property with a Bluetooth on. Not driving just walking around the yard or terminal good grief how spiteful can they get. Guess we will be hiring from the bottom of the barrel from now on keep on paying out them hiring bonuses aco

Have not heard this yet but wouldn’t surprise me and the fact all the new trucks have the damn Bluetooth controls right on the steering wheel and we are forbidden from using it makes it that much more ridiculous I mean that’s just settling people up for failure

They removed the blue tooth enabled radios in the 17 freightliners. I dont think the 18s came with that type of radio

The 17 freightliner I drive still has it you can’t talk over it but you can sync it up to your phone and listen to music/podcasts the 19s are the same way

The 18 models did have it removed in mine anyway however the new 19 freightliners have it enabled and all the controls for the radio and Bluetooth right on the wheel so you literally could do everything hands free

Haven’t heard this but you shouldn’t have a Bluetooth on in the yard or on the dock. You need to hear or you could get your ass ran over by a forklift driver or jockey that isn’t paying attention. Look, I would prefer not to have the cameras and the stupid Bluetooth policy but at some point you must at least use common sense. It’s really not a problem in the city because drivers just make their deliveries or pickups and come back and sit in their truck and make phone calls or just pull out on the street if the dock is congested and talk after they set their brakes. The company should be smart enough to know this cost them in productivity on the city streets. The line is a bit different but it cost them too in that department. I guess it’s just a price they are willing to pay.

Don’t use it unless your parked. They will nail your ass. Just saying >>>>>>

But its ok for sales to drive thru the yard with the phone in their hand, hostlers on hand held radios talking hitting parked trailers while trying to back in that's ok... :crap: But no your blue tooth is unsafe.
Haz Mat not secured in outbound loads that's ok too the dock guys are busy.
And an operations manager who dose not care. I'm about done with this place. over 10 years in but tired of the game.

None of it is OK. But every place has it’s BS to tolerate. Another outfit may not have cameras or stupid policies but they have BS. It’s just wrapped up in a different package. If you have some significant time in it would be stupid to start over at the bottom. If you’re a young man it may be something to consider. You would just have to weigh the pro and cons and understand that the grass isn’t always greener.

Yard or street doesn't make a difference. Do not get caught with a blue tooth in your ear, unless you are stopped and making or receiving a call. Before you start moving take it out.

I'm curious...do they enforce the tobacco policy as strictly as the bluetooth policy?
No, they will tell you its against company policy... most terminal managers will not even write you up. My terminal manager has to work city drivers 12 plus hours to just too keep up with due service freight. Tobacco policy is not even mentioned.
Bluetooth policy is enforced through Atlanta.

I guess their philosophy is if you want to kill your self then just go right ahead. It’s way down the list of priorities with the driver we have today. It may be a company policy but some things they just look the other way I suppose. Just my opinion of course.

So they pick and choose what/which policies to enforce. Sounds like a recipe for a wrongful termination suit

They enforce it at my barn.

They semi enforce it where I am but at the same time they pair drivers who smoke in the same truck so nobody complains at least until yours is gone or in the shop and your stuck driving one then it may be an issue when you can’t run the heat or A/C without choking to death not to mention the ashes every where. I don’t mind if you smoke but it’s not your personal vehicle clean up after yourself and have some courtesy for those who may drive it that don’t smoke.
