SAIA | off duty time

There is still a way to cheat on the new system on your break but I’ll let y’all figure that one out on your own i figure if this dumb hillbilly can figure it out anyone can lol.
But they are right don’t take your break too early and if you have a flat or some other delay late in the day go ahead and show another break while you are waiting because if you end up using your 16 hr rule that 30 minuets will be the difference between you making it back to the terminal or having someone come and drive you in
:27:

safety guy said p/d drivers dont even have to run a log but... saia wants logs in every trucks so we should use it also to show 10hr off everyday but he didnt say anything about taking breaks or connecting p/d and saturday linehaul.

In some cases, p/d wouldn’t need to log. But, if you travel more than 100 air mile radius from your domicile, DOT requires a log. It’s probably easier for Saia to require a log for all rather than pick and choose who logs and who doesn’t. There are some terminals where a p/d driver may not get more than 10 miles from home. But there are also those where drivers put on 350 miles in a day for their route.

I haven’t seen a way to cheat at all while in the tractor anyway without using personal conveyance but if you do that they will nail you because they have begun to run reports seeing how often certain drivers use it. There are other ways though if you think about it that’s all I’m saying

I can't take it any more . I have to reply to this . Your 14 starts as soon as you log on for the first time that day and you go on duty 14 hours after the first time you went on duty you are done. No matter how many times you go off duty your 14 hr clock is still running . The only exception is if you are elgible to use the 16 hour rule. As far as breaks go is you take your break at your 6th hr but before your 8th hour you will only have to take one break unless you use the 16 hr rule.. It doesn't matter if you are a line or city the rule is the same .

But it doesn't count against your 70, don't know if that matters or not, but that would be the only reason I could see to do that

Any time your clock is running it counts against your 70. So even if you go off duty and log out before your 14 is up them log on and go on duty before you have your 10 hr break it goes against your 14 for that day and also counts against your 70.

only on duty time counts against your 70, time logged off duty during your tour counts against your 14 not your 70

I don’t see how any of this is relevant to discuss because if you’re sitting around long enough to try and find a way to save time in your 14 there is something wrong with that. Not to say some meets may get those issues from time to time but reality is you get 14 hours in a days work off duty like air-ride said only matters if you are off for 30 min to reset your until break time (take your lunch) or 10 consecutive hours off to reset your 14 for day to day or further more 34 hours consecutive to reset your 70 hour work week. So off duty does nothing for outside these factors in the course of a regular work day however if you need to save drive time I’m by no means suggesting it but you could select in yard status on the vnomics and keep trucking with no effect to drive tome but still counts to your 14 also if your in a pinch and are at a terminal and need to take lunch but want to hook up you could park your tractor and use a jockey truck to hook and break down again not advising it but people do it

thank you for all answers, some advices are really interesting. I usually drive really close to my terminal and now Im doing linehaul only on Saturday. Here is another question.
In winter we have less work in P&D so on Saturday I always have full 14hrs to use and I always ask for best run to use all time. Now in summer we have more work in P/D and sonetimes I end up only with 7-8hrs which is enough for small 200miles run. Question is... if I dont really have to run log for P/D , do I have to really use only hours which left in vnonics or I can do any run?
I understand wherever i go, whatever i do, i have to start log in vnomics but Im still wondering.

70 hours on duty max......P & D and /or Linehaul. 62.5 hours on the clock....7.5 max on Linehaul run....Time clock is synchronized with Vnomics.

If you’re asking since you don’t use a log in city work can you still use all your drive hours to do a 500 mile run after a pedal route no. Like stated above the vnomics is synced with the time clock and therefore you only have 14 hours on duty no matter how you spin it

ok
I simply like doing linehaul on Saturday to het extra money. I ask questions because Im new and dont want to be fired or ticketted for something ai didnt know.
I still dont understand why hitting off duty even couple times a day counts towards 14hrs a day but not 70hrs during week. In my opinion it should be counted. Since it is not counted then I also think I can take asmany breaks as I want. Maybe breaks are something bad for LH but not for PD.

OK.... The best thing you can do is get with safety and ask them. They should be able to answer all your questions with factual information.

haha
well i will but i wanted your opinion first.
Our safety guy shut down conversation after half of LH guys started asking questions which were started with words "what if..."

Also if you are thinking about some of the advice given above , remember if your vnomics is like ours ( XPO ) when you change status it stamps a place on where the change occurred. You know like switching to yard moves and you are not in a yard.
