There are people out there that think voting to further empower the wealthy is smart. You know, because the wealthy told them they would be smarter than everybody else if they did.
It is really astonishing to watch people with SOOOOOO much in common pick a side and get behind it ( with all of their might ) and the side they pick couldn't give a crap about them and has little to nothing in common with them.

My personal economic situation hasn't changed in 15 years.
It's the only economics I worry about. And the only one I have control over.
Whether that's worded correctly or not I don't know.
I don't see it getting any better. So. I am getting my ducks in a row to leave this business. And I would never suggest that anyone get a job in the LTL sector of trucking.
I hardly see anything positive posted on any of the LTL forums.
Now We didn't have the interweb and phones and all this junk we have now when I first started.
Good thing?
Bad thing?
Personally I'm glad we didn't have social media.

I'm not here to offend anyone. Or troll.
Just getting in your poll. Lots of comments but only 19 votes when I voted.
I voted unstable.
Main reason. If all these tariffs go through.
Thanks.

You make a good point. Social media has changed the landscape for employers. Everyone can know anything.

These tariffs are just the start. Hold on tight.

I agree . A lot of people still believe the wealth will trickle down and we see that that has not been the case since the 70's. The upper classes wealth as a percentage has quadrupled while the working class has stagnated.
And I know you expect me to say this but workers we'll being has gone down with the decline in unions, plain and simple. Workers are losing their voice .

I love it when a guy loses his ::shit:: over voting this way or that because of an abortion debate. You ever gonna have an abortion, fella ? And this guy will carry on and on about how killing is absolutely wrong and must be completely abolished.

And then he will continue to say how important it is to have guns. Well, wait a minute. A guns only purpose is to kill something. You just said we ain't allowed to kill stuff. So what do you need a gun for ?

And then he will respond, because of all these criminals. They need to increase the death penalty and get rid of all these people. Ummm, are you retarded or something ? What the hell, if anything, do you actually think and believe ?

I agree and voted unstable. Tariffs. World economy. Politics in general. Plus the industry isn't stable. Still room for further consolidation.

I think the economy will stall because of following things. The Fed is forcasting quarterly raises in interest rates, that's going to drive the price of borrowing money up for the big boys on Wall St and big corps. The tarrifs on imports are still new and working their way through the economy, we have yet to feel the full affect of them and it will be noticeable as the cost of durable goods made with steel and aluminum will rise and be passed onto consumers and businesses. Unemployment is extremely low, meaning to me that people who want to work are working. I figure at some point, production will stall as there will not be enough workers to meet demand, we're allready feeling that in our business which brings me to compensation. I think compensation will continue to rise because the coming stall in the economy will not be deep enough to blunt the shortage in qualified, seated drivers in the national fleet. As long as demand for drivers remains high and competition for them is steep, I figure our compensation will necessarily have to rise in an attempt to retain the current workforce within our company.

Even with most driving jobs not appealing to roughly 50% of the population ( women ) and younger people turned off by the lack of instant gratification AND even with all of it's faults , most driving jobs allow experience to command respect ( and usually the better equipment and runs - younger people don't like this either ) - you believe compensation will rise?

I hope you are right. But what's going on right now is what it looks like with ALL of the deck ( except the government ) stacked in driver's favor. Without being political the real wages are falling as inflation starts to rise , so most blue collar people would need a really BIG raise or a series of NICE smaller raises to keep up. And most blue collar folks will need a benefits increase to be substantial as well just to tread water.

What causes an individual to cast a vote against his or hers own self interest? Guns, God and Gays are extremely emotional "HOT" button issues that Republicans use to gin up their base. Emotion is much stronger than reason, so they incessantly push these issues to distract their base from the real issues that they should be concerned about. In the meantime, they pander to the 1% as they take everything we have worked for throughout our lives. Social Security and Medicare are labelled entitlements. Why am I not entitled to these programs when I have paid into them my entire working life?

Then why isn't it rising now ? They gave a small raise this spring. But not enough considering the market for jobs. Mechanics, office staff, management and drivers are leaving. If wages and benefits are tools to keep a qualified workforce why aren't they being used ?

Exactly, they give a small raise and cut benefits and you lose buying power but they keep talking about the small increase as something to be cherished. Listen, any raise is a good thing. But going backwards is not. And that is what's happening.

Blind them with themselves. Puppets on a string. And of course, not want you to use social security or medicare but at the same time destroy your retirement and health care system so that you are left with no choice but social security and medicare.

Amazon will continue to ballon up.
Looks like you are right...

Agree 100%

Can I ask why your govt used the money for social security like a slush fund, instead of keeping hands off? Ours is self sustaining, it’s run like an investment and completely separate from any govt programs.
Sooooooo , move to Canada?

You can ask but the answer is clear: Big interest control our politicians. Our politicians control government.

As long as corporations and large money control the message and our government has a price tag on it , the working class will get stepped on.

There are no heroes. Every politician seems to sell out once in office. Even the supposedly wealthy ones.

Social Security was meant to be a pay as you go program. In 1980 or so, congress saw the impending shortfall from baby boomers retiring and upped the takeout by 2%, if I remember correctly. It's worked and if the government just left it alone, it would have been solvent for generations. However, the situation is not nearly as dire as some would have you believe. Individuals earning 112K actually stop paying into the program. They pay as everyone else does UP TO 112K. At that point, no more social security deductions are taken from them. If Congress would remove the cap, social security would be solvent forever. By the way, the real answer to your question is simple; In Canada, the government serves the people. In America, the government serves the corporations.
