ABF | ue's treated like second class citizen

Yeah,........We got a bat in the house,......Wife barricaded in the bedroom...........I’m dressed in son’s catcher’s mask and heavy winter coat and welder’s gloves and two tennis racquets........

Have been chasing the little rotten sonofagun for the last couple of hours. Every 20 minutes he dive-bombs the living room....

I swear both the bat and our cat are laughing at me.........The cat seems to show up precisely just before the bat swoops in from the dining room, and tries to trip me up while I swing wildly and pirouette across the living room turning the air around me blue with language I haven’t used since night shift loading dock........

The cat’s on borrowed time..........My next move is the shotgun,....and the cat don’t know it has .....two barrels........
I know a good sheet-rock dude in case any of those shotgun blasts miss their ‘target’.

I'll keep that in mind.........But I can tell you I have a shotgun just because my hand is a little...shaky.....

You don't miss with a shotgun,...especially both barrels at once......

You have to pick yourself up off the floor,.....but once the smoke clears,......you can generally tell by the blood flecks,....that your bat..(..and squirrel..)....problem is..... gone.....

( a great Plus is that if you want a new window,..half the work is done already..)....

Yes,....I may need to keep your drywall guy on retainer......

Is it just me. we go out and run close to what a road man runs on turns, but yet we get hand me down equipment. After three years on the road, the trucks are sent to the city because they are deemed no longer reliable for the road. Then send a memo to give them to the longest ue run WTF.
Now to put the icing on the cake, they're not going to bother to turn them up to 65, so now we have to wait till the 17's cycle in. With most of us running at max weight nightly, we'll have to wait three more years to see a screw.
I don't hear turncoat bitchin about his Ue run. Bid off if you don't like it.

If there is a split seniority board,.....you might be giving up your seniority for a year to transfer to/from road board.....

Why should anyone do that on a question of whether the company provides equal wage earning opportunities to each classification?

that 's why joint compound comes in 5 gallon buckets , in case u make a big mess

Ah, heck.......I thought it was to be able to provide extra "guest" seating once you emptied the bucket out.
Kinda hard to make people sit on gallon cans,...if you know what I mean...

UE is what it is, bid it or dont. Honestly from different perspective, I dont like it. Takes road work away less pay. So we created, enjoy something that takes good paying miles.

I was UE when it first started as pse ,We all drove junks ,check engine lights on head lights blinking fenders rattling ,I complained it it did no good what so ever. I spent more time broke down than driving some weeks ,I came to the conculsion they don't care so don't expect them to change as long as it is road worthy and is not a safety issue. I do the speed limit if I get passed by a cement mixer and a Amish buggy so be it I did the best I could with the equipment the gave me .When the T M asked what took me so long and they complain about 6 guys on dock waiting for freight. I just invite him to come with me .They can see everything your doing anyway.
When you do get a newer unit with low miles it's a problem child line haul does not want to deal with so they but it in the city to let the city operations absorb the cost of repairs .When you break down they will give you another junk if you go into a break with a city unit your leave with one, at least that's how it used to be

Find something to shop your truck for, grab you a 17 and haul ass. You'll be just as damn tired when you get done on Saturday morning...trust me. If they want to dispatch you on a long box with over 31K they gotta give you a tandem or take some off. They will poke their lips out, but they will call line haul and get you a tandem. UE are second class, learn to be a first class bastard when necessary. You know your doing it right when you here them say, oh hell, here's that bastard now!

UE isn't for everyone. UE is synonymous with bitch, bastard, etc. If your not one...give it a few months. The only advantage I see to road is your home everyday and have a set bid. Most road drivers would rather not deal with the dock drama, but of course the work they wouldn't mind :-)

Embrace the Pace! Brother! Remember we're being tutored by bean-counters who've never been in a TT, never worked a 8pm -9am or whenever you may be done with your shift. Mainstream America does not grasp that concept! To this day my friends of 40-50 yrs say to me "whaddya mean you work until the work is done?" They have no idea what we deal with on a daily basis! and why we "used" to be payed well!

And why the trucking industry will continue to struggle attracting people to this job.
For years,.......decades, even,.......trucking executives permitted 90% turnover rates, without questioning what caused that....Who cares? As long as the economy was bad enough to continue to supply “fresh meat” to the meat grinder.........

Now they want 18 year olds, more women, and longer HOS,........as “answers” to the driver shortage that’s been building for the last 8 or so years....

And I will safely predict the turnover rates will maintain the status quo........
Eventually to the point that some carriers will fail due to lack of service....
And they’ll blame that on the drivers.....
