Holland | Full Rate or lock the gate

As I read these replies, I am astonished that some of the members of the YRCW companies have already given up before negotiations have even started. This is the best time in the last 30 plus years to get a good contract. Now do I think we will get all our pay and benefits back, but we can certainly try. With the shortage of truck drivers we have the advantage. We must not let the management have free Raynes on their pay and bonuses anymore. Remember we have given the company back over 4 billion dollars to pay off a 1.3 billion dollar debt approximately. They must be held accountable with know bonuses being paid out unless the employees get compensated first. We must hold our Union accountable and if they don't then we can fire them by with drawing our Union dues in the right to work states. Cut their revenue source unless they bargain in good faith. Remember, the freight will have to go somewhere and they will need drivers. if you have a good driving record, you should be in good shape. To end, I will say that all the Union carriers that went out of business, were mostly due to bad management and failing to change direction as some of the other union carriers did. That's my opinion.

I like the first part of your post..... the last I disagree.....

Like you said it is your opinion.

2019 look at the facts, very extreme driver shortage and they are making money , so Driver's have the upper hand in 2019 , we don't need to bow down no more , it's time to at the very least "MATCH" the non-union higher pay scale , so then maybe we could hire !!

Come on Falcon you know the false montra: Reagan was the one that deregulated the trucking industry... I have been trying for over 25 yrs to educate people that it was actually Carter, but to date you still hear it was Reagan.

And I would also like to add in large part it is the Teamsters themselves who have allowed membership to decline. When you get the teamsters magazine what is it that you see as far as organizing? Nurses, cops, you can just about name it other than freight with little exception and dismal results.

I go back to the question I posed the BA; why is it that we pay additional strike fund, when in reality the Union will not allow YRC/Holland to strike. I get that the Union can’t really afford to gamble a strike by these companies for many reasons, and the main one is that the Non’s in many ways are like wolves on the prowl just waiting for that to happen. It would truly be a death nail that in the current environment of the company just may lay it to rest and the leadership knows this.
Howard Metzenbaum (D) Ohio was the Senator that sponsored the Deregulation Bill. Signed by Jimmy Carter. The Democrats really care about the Union and working men and women. Yet people continue to vote for them. Dumb.

And lets hope & pray they we Honor us with a good contract in 2019 ..........

How about lets not spew political here say on this site. Look up motor carrier act of 1980 on wikipedia and they state this was initiated in 1970-71 by the Nixon administration continued through the Ford white house and then Carter. Anyone that was around then knows the goverment hated Hoffa and even after he disappeared in 1975 they made sure his legacy disappeared too (IMO).

I think the best we can hope for is 3% wage increase a year to get us back 15% keep company paid insurance. The full pension rate is not coming back.

That's only if you vote yes for that BULLSH*T
25000 union members * 20000 = 500 million full pension
25000 union members * 10000 = 250 million 15%

Does YRC have an extra 750 million a year for full rate its not coming back?

You make many valid points,F,but your last sentence, about changing direction? Yes,poor management, along with the union, and it’s members not wanting to change things like ancient work rules that were, and some that still are anti productive to be able to compete with the competition...I have said this before. You are competing against for example, road drivers from non union companies that drive, hook and break their own sets, spot them in the dock, work the dock, and even fuel their own trucks. You need changes within your ranks to compete with that.. Look for YRCW to bring some changes maybe involving the utility classification in the upcoming negotiations,as my partners girlfriend Stephanie has already made reference to....

Think real issue in 2019 is that IF they don't at least match the higher non-union pay scale ,how will they be able to stay in business with not being able to hire driver's ??

Their recruiters are doing horribly recruiting this is still a great job where else can you walk in off the street and potentially make $80,000+ after 4 weeks of training nowhere even with the 15% wage cut? I made $88,000 first year on extra board always being called on rest and never taking anytime off other than team runs and waiting for work calls!

I think the rank & file @ YRC will follow ABF. Accept the first offer. I would like to be wrong, but I don't see the rank & file sticking together for better compensation. YRC employees have taken it up the butt for a long time. They need a big bump in wages. The pension contribution to YRC will never change. Why should they. In their eyes the employees are no threat to how they do business. When they cause a change to their money flow, then you will have a chance. Until then, go to work, or change employers. von.

I'm assuming you drive for YRC since Holland has no team runs. I dont get how you averaged $1700 a week all year long at bottom scale running extra board at YRC. Isn't bottom scale like .45 cpm and 17 bucks an hour.

We did a lot of Salt lake turn to Phoenix 6400 miles Bloomington denver 6000 miles I broke 3300+ miles a week on singles runs always being called on rest no slides add in all the clock time fuel waiting drop and hooks. Drivers at 309 on teams Bloomington turn Denver all gross over a $100,000.
