TForce | The contract vote will pass

Depending what your 401k match is at FDXF I'm willing to bet it takes at least 6 % of your own money to get the max match that will add up to about $1.50 per hour benefit. that puts FDXF at $30.35 total compensation. that number would go up very little if you receive any bonuses during the year. and to another point a UPSF driver at top scale jumping ship to fedex means he starts at the 2nd year rate of $22.58 so that is a total loss of $12.57 per hour. that is a bankruptcy for most family's.
so to recap FDXF top rate total compensation-$30.35
UPSF top rate total compensation-$36.57
if a UPSF top rate driver starts at FDXF-$24.08

Here is the bottom few paragraphs in a long article that was posted on the web addressing UPS & the union view.

Parcel consultant Gerald Hempstead disagreed with Jindel, saying competitors will try to lock in fleeing UPS shippers in the event of a “no” vote from the Teamsters, instead of letting them go back to big brown.

“It’s really going to cost some shippers during the outage, and the carriers that step up like FedEx might demand a longer-term deal,” Hempstead said. “What happened with the vote is highly unusual. It’s a real embarrassment to the union negotiating team.”

Rob Martinez, founder and CEO of consultancy Shipware, said the note to customers is a tacit acknowledgement by UPS that the union will vote down the pact.

“They (UPS) don’t want customer inventory custody issues as loads are abandoned throughout the network,” Martinez said. “I guess if there’s any good news, it’s that unlike small parcel which is dominated by the FedEx and UPS duopoly there are many LTL alternatives in every region.”

Fedex gives you 3.5% if you put 6% in 401k. They give another 3% to 6% for pension with no match from driver.

sorry, but if you can't make it on $22.58 (in the midwest minus Chicago) you need to take finance classes, that is not bankruptcy wages....

Are you kidding me? Have you seen the average home price in Denver or Salt lake city? My point is that UPS Freight employees make a total compensation of somewhere between $4-$6 more than our closest competitors. Is that a legitimate Reason to Burn the bitch to the ground? If to much over time is your issue that issue can be solved terminal by terminal with max effort by the local union and ultra involved employees.

I hope you hold out for what you deserve. It helps drive our wages. Fedex didnt pay us until they were afraid we were going to unionize.

and fedex doesnt have union dues, and the retirement money is theirs, whats your point?

Union dues are 100% tax deductible.they are a mute point. Yes your 401k money is technically yours but you must contribute your own hourly income to get that benefit. UPSF pension is a benefit that does not come from our hourly wage.

Why are we debating the differences between different company's? It has nothing to do with our current situation.
Sure as Hell has everything to do with this possible strike. if UPSF employees know the hard numbers about total compensation then this Labor dispute looses its Teeth in a hurry.

Bombshell, new tax laws do not include union dues nor uniform expenses as deductible.

You got me there. But in this region right to work = you do not have to join the Union but they must represent you. off course you will be left out of voting and strike compensation.

In 2013 the vote completely flipped when we were facing a strike.

An overwhelming no vote by mail on the first vote became an overwhelming yes on the second vote.

The same is likely to happen this year. The majority of employees are not looking to strike right before the holidays in the freezing cold.

There is a very vocal minority on the internet but the silent majority are going to vote with their wallets and not with their hearts. It's just human nature.

It happened in 2013 and it's going to happen again in 2018.

Sounds like a very reasonable argument.
What were the numbers in 2013?
