SEFL | Union

Was thinking about the company I work for. Your company has a different business model. If you look at yrc and holland and abf you get a better picture of what I’m talking about. Abf is profitable so you could make an argument with them, but the others aren’t
Contract didn’t cause financial problems at YRCW, management did. Remember till 2013 ABF and YRCW was under same contract (TMI). Ones profitable and the other just now getting back shows difference in management strategies.

How do you know what my politics are? Freedom is my politics. Workers should be free to unionize. Corps should be free to fire lazy troublemakers.
Thanks for making me think this through. I realize an earlier statement is inconsistent with my ideals and so must withdraw it. Having a union force a company to keep unproductive workers runs against my freedom ideal; however, allowing any corporate entity unchecked power to fire and hire at will results in abuse eventually. Can’t there be a happy medium?
You find that happy medium, get back to us. We have been looking for it for years. von.

That’s why I’m most contracts it states fair days work for fair days pay

After the dealing UPSF employees have dealt with concerning the union, I'd think that even for the people with a glimpse of hope for a union, their hope might have faded.

I've noticed that in order to get fired here now, the local SCM will suspend you pending a corporate investigation. I can only assume they are going over the individual in questions file to make sure nothing comes back to bite them in the rear.

There are only 2 people I've seen them fire without the three day suspension, one got in the SCM's face and cussed him out. The other guy....well....you shouldnt act like a child and throw heavy objects at people.

The game plan is to make unwanted drivers miserable enough to quit. Always watching over your shoulder to see which one will knife you. Figuratively. I’ve seen sefl terminate drivers, but you can see it coming a mile away before it happens. Sometimes it’s warrented sometimes it’s a vendetta from a jerk on a powertrip. Seen both. Best advise is not be on a first name basis with leadership. Clock. work. Go home. Those guys rarely get fired.

We had a good old buddy system until our last SCM left. They were and still are dead weight but I've heard the new SCM is holding them accountable for their actions now but I haven't been P&S since he came in so I can only take other people's words for that.

I get along with all of our managers and we joke around but its sickening to see the same guys kissing butts. I know you've probably seen it, when Tobin visits. I'll speak to him briefly but its amazing to watch the same butt kissers follow him around like lost puppies

Hahahaha yes, I’ve seen that too

Talking to a few fellow coworkers at SEFL their telling me that drivers can be forced to work at another terminal now with no prior notice. Get a phone call early in the morning telling them they have to go they have no choice. The second gripe is being on call and calling in then being told to call back in 5 hours later. One driver didn't call back and got written up. Sad to see this kind of treatment of drivers when drivers are a valuable commodity.

All depends on who the scm is. Some only care about their numbers while hating that us drivers inconvenience them so and others treat us with respect. If you don’t like your scm then wait a while. It’s a revolving door

Which terminal?

What’s sad about this is it shows sefl greed. With all the extra profit from tax savings do you really need to penny pinch with your drivers this way? It’s all about ladder climbing and bonus chasing

I didn't really think they could force you to work at another terminal out of town. They could ask but was not aware they could force you. If they want me to make myself available to be on call all day they need to compensate me to keep myself available. If they have me calling in at a certain time and they tell me to call back a few hours later, that ain't gonna happen, you better tell me then, one way or the other.

Fayetteville

I used to go to that terminal and help many years ago. Once the old terminal manager left 6-7 years ago I quit going to help. Terminal manager was a straight up ass to me. I was supposed to be down all week and left after Monday and went home. Heard turnover was really high after the new guy came in. Dont know if its the same guy.

They've tried to get me with that while on call too. I told them I'm not being paid to set here all day to call you so you either need me now or I'm not calling you back.

He's still there. He tried to go to RAL but they said no. He hated the city dispatcher and tried to get him to quit and forced him to full time dock worker. Did the same with the inbound supervisor. Driver turnover is high. Guys with a lot of tenure are walking out the door.
