SAIA | Union

It just amazes me how the majority of drivers complain about the work conditions and treatment here but do absolutely nothing about it. The mentality is as if there’s nothing you can do and might as well accept it. Well I personally give this company 100% and won’t roll over when tactics are tainted by managerial misfits. I’m not going to feel like a hostage here while these idiots pad their resumes.
Just maybe you’ll be able to get a great paying job like YRC???

Well you may earn a few hundred dollars a week less but just think you will not have to pay that pesky $50 a week for benefits.

Plus you get the pleasure of paying you $60 a month or so in union dues...

Very smart... you drive a hard bargain...

Since when has yrc been the poster child of the union? Just wondering. I’m just weighing the options if presented. You just keep drinking that KoolAid and singing kumbaya as your little red lite flashes.

Well since YRC is the largest and one of the few remaining teamster LTL carriers remaining who else is the poster boy for the teamsters????

They have destroyed every other teamster LTL job....

Bill Zollars destroyed Yellow, Roadway and Holland. Borrowing billions and having no credible plan to make it all work. The average driver, dock worker and employee have kept things alive. The Teamsters did not destroy these companies. They have made mistakes with other companies obviously but not these.

I think its a no brainer . Union Yes . With the union ya pay your due around 60 a month but for that you get a pension thats second to non health and welfare no extra charge for dependents no matter how many kids, dental included Eye doctors , helps to keep some punk supervised off your but . I am a retired Teamster and with my s/s and pension I clear a week more than if I worked . I calculated I would have to work 18 hr . o/t a week to clear what I take home now and .I sleep as long as I wish . The best investment I ever made was paying those dues . Your T/M knows that if ya go union he will be fired in a micro minute . SAIA will not close the doors ,what they will do is **** and complain for a while then things will go on as usual. The worst that could happen is they might sell to someone else that will take over . Don't let the company or any naysayers intimidate you . I talked to a lady in my neighbor hood who's husband works for Saia and according to her if he retires she will have to go to work . Pretty sad that seniors have to work in their old age because their former employer paid them next to noting for a pension .Whats even sadder is that the employees let it happen .

I stayed off this thread for a reason. Most know where I have stood over the years on unions so it’s hard for me to eat crow. But since I’ve retired my stance has changed. I can think of no other company that needs a union more than SAIA. Having seen the contempt this company has shown their employees through intimidation is despicable. I have seen first hand the retaliatory behavior that wouldn’t be allowed in a unionized environment. They have created a culture that rules this way. It wasn’t always the way it is today. But they have changed. Dallas will begin a campaign this spring or summer to try one more time to organize. I plan to be part of this effort. By not working here any longer will most certainly keep them from threatening me with my job. It will be a up hill battle but I think it’s worth a shot. I will contact the LOCAL 745 soon and see if I can help. The pension won’t be a major selling point because of it’s uncertainty especially with the older guys IMO. Respect and equal treatment is what’s wanted. The favoritism has finally taken it’s toll. And the Teamsters is the only shot of ever attaining fair treatment here. The great presidential award winning dispatcher at one service center has brought this on. The dispatcher is good on the computer and the manipulation and covers his ass along with everyone else he chooses to. The worthless TM is afraid of him because he’s unable to do his job as effectively. He most certainly can’t fire a dispatcher that covers his ass. This place needs a major house cleaning. Heads will roll if the Teamsters gain a foothold in Dallas. It’s still a long shot but I think it can at least bring positive change even if they can’t get the votes just like it did at FedEx. Let’s get the votes and see where it goes. First things first.

Anything worth having is worth fighting for.

You are blessed and lucky
Most teamsters in the LTL business under 50 years old most likely will never see a nickel of their pension.
What will their $60 a month get them????

That’s not entirely true.Western states and New England are in good shape .Those are very large funds and a host of others are fairly solvent .Id worry more if I were a state pension holder in Illinois or New York And New Jerseyor Pennsylvania ,These finds are broke and whom will fix them ,Guess Who ,The tax payer .Did these funds get infiltrated by organized crime or miss managed ,No ..We need to change the laws where as a fully funded plans can accrue future benefits with out paying taxes or returning money back to employers.A pension promise is a sacred promise for all that contribute.
