Has using the red circle caused ups to lay drivers off instead of continuing to pay it? What terminals have started to lay drivers off?

My friend told me they have the freight, but UPS tells the terminal manager to lay off some.
He says they don't have enough drivers to cover pickups.
I feel sorry for my former TM,that he can't actually be much of a manager with UPS hounding him.

Although Now that I think back to my time as a P & D driver.
Freight has a trend of dropping off from mid November to March in years past.

There will definitely be some layoffs this winter. The economy is starting to tick downward. Layoffs are part of the economic cycle. Its little solace to those affected, but it is what it is, we where all once at the bottom of the seniority roster.

I with you Dockworker,I also along with a few other top drivers used to burn up some vacation time to help out the ones at the bottom.

Although I wonder if Amazon delivering their own stuff is hurting LTL now days?

If it’s going to sting anyone the most it would be UPS small pack and FedEx ground.
Amazon is building an air hub to combat the high shipping rate increases imposed on them by UPS and FedEx. They claim 1-2 billion a year saved by doing this.

It's been over a year since I been at ground..... back then ground was not hauling that much Amazon..... very little as a matter of fact.

Amazon, will have all the problems of a shipping company then, also. Amazon will become so segmented, it won't be able too control itself. When you try to do and be everything, you are usually not great at any one thing.

I don't think Amazon delivering it's own packages has a effect on ltl...if you think about it we picked up ltl then condensed it into trailers and delivered to Amazon to go out in package cars..even for there own drivers... I really think ups freight wanted to scale back the amount of Amazon freight it picked up because of the a

They cut back on the amount of Amazon it wanted to move because it wasn't that profitable.. when considered the amount of trailers they had to rent..ho h long Amazon would tie equipment up.. man power.. and it took away from other customers

Lot of small minihubs(I heard 20) are closing Christmas and New year week. That's causing us to layoff 5 road drivers. As far as pick ups go we are about the same as before the close down.

Your Scranton Pa. terminal laid 2 drivers off. Your driver/ trainer had a road driver with him yesterday showing him the ropes of P&D, he decided to bump in to keep working. It sounded like it was going to be permanent not a few weeks....

PO wants to shed the big packages from Amazon.
Mailman says letter carrier morale is bad bc of Amazon taxing their operations.
Plenty of envelope biz from UPS and FedEx going to USPS.
