Doe anyone still do a paper log book even though you have a ELD on board?

And, does anybody experience problems with correcting or overriding a ELD before you end you trip?

Thanks. von.

Wish I could do paper at FXF.
The 30 min meal is a joke... just pushes the linehaul driver deeper into rush hour traffic.
Especially in the winter driver still sitting in the cab... not a break like getting home earlier to rest.

Well I'm sure you know you need to have a paper log book even with ELD. The police will ask you to see one at a stop. Our company uses the J.J. Keller system for our ELD and I haven't had any problems going back and redoing anything if needed and it also lets us put in notes also.
Have a safe and Merry Christmas

If you have to alter the information on the cam, do you have to explain why you changed the info? von.

Yes it's called unclaimed time when I review my log before submitting it, some times when we load at a big rail yard we have to move from one end to the other to get our units and it will question as to why I didn't go to driving instead of on-duty non driving I can go in and and state why that was since we and the company agree since we are in the same location and moving less than 5 miles we can stay on on duty non driving. Now this is in carhaul so freight may be different

By law you are required to have a log book with you, just in case the electronic HOS device malfunctions. A trooper may ask to see you have one, but, if using an electronic device of some sort they wont look at the 'book'.

Let me see if I have this right. The DOT Reg's require you to fill out a paper log with the on board recorder? If so what a waste of time. When you sign your log sheet you have a legal document that can be used against you or for you. Before I turned in my 'required' paper log, I would demand to see the other log to make sure they matched. Not matching the 2 logs is inviting all kinds of trouble. Any body experience problems from the paper to the electronic? von.

The ELD goes down and it's been down for two days give me filling out the paper long how do you show the previous six or seven days on your logbook if they ask for it? In other words if the ERD goes down you can't remember 7 Days previous so did they write you up or do they give you some slack? Von.

You’re on private property at that point I’m assuming...that may make a difference. We shuffled trailers around the yard for 45-60 minutes sometimes before we hit the street...never had to switch to ‘driving’ mode. Never heard a word about it.

If the ELD goes down, you get copies of your past 7 days printed out. If you’re on the road you can have them faxed to you. Personally I carry a paper log with me all the time. These Peoplenet pieces of crap are famous for going down. Especially after a update.

You tell the trooper you can contact your safety department and they can fax the last ten days of logs. Most of the time (our company uses Peoplenet, so I've had the chance to do it) they'll just take your word for it and move on.

The peoplenet ELD went out on me during a trip a few weeks back and I used the peoplenet app on my phone to log one via and logout at the end of the trip.

In Illinois, they can send them right to the troopers car if they need to. Would guess they can do that about anywhere also.
