A coach in the cab: vision-based safety tech gives drivers instant feedback

https://www.ccjdigital.com/coach-in-the-cab-machine-vision-gives-drivers-instant-feedback/?utm_source=daily&utm_medium=email&utm_content=12-18-2018&utm_campaign=Commercial Carrier Journal&ust_id=124f9551466b2c5785e539d1cda3c973&utm_term=newsletter-2-daily-position-top-story

"Drivers get progressive in-cabin alerts if they are distracted while a vehicle is moving. A driver is not alerted for looking at a cell phone at a stop light, for instance. The severity of risk is based on the length of time a driver is not looking at the road and the speed of the vehicle.

Drivers hear a beep at the first sign of distraction. If they continue the behavior the device will say “distracted.” After 4 seconds the tone becomes more severe to command their attention."

They start putting this crap in the tractors they better hurry up with the robot trucks because no one will want to deal with this.

Judge says federal law trumps California’s new independent contractor test

"However, the ruling (coming in the case of Alvarez v. XPO Logistics) does not set a precedent. The overall case is still in process. Only if it or another of the lawsuits around federal pre-emption were to reach appeals stage, and be decided on, would precedent against use of the ABC test be set."

Resurgent Oil Fields Keep Drivers in Short Supply

"For one thing, jobs are plentiful; at just 2.1%, the city of Midland’s unemployment rate is the lowest in the Lone Star State. In the past year alone, Midland added 8,800 jobs, 7,900 coming in the oil field, construction and transportation sectors. In five years the city’s population has jumped by 15,000 residents to more than 136,000."

I suppose the next group asking for an exemption will be companies that operate between dusk, and dawn???

Package Thief vs. Glitter Bomb Trap

Only thing that could have made this better is if he could have rigged a spray adhesive to go off as the glitter spun... You'd never get that out. The scumbags reactions are a bit surprising... All in all they handled it pretty good.

FMCSA Says Trucks Can Use Cameras Instead Of Rear-View Mirrors

https://www.freightwaves.com/news/t...-can-use-cameras-instead-of-rear-view-mirrors

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has reached a decision on Stoneridge, Inc.’s (NYSE: SRI) application for an exemption to rules governing “Parts and Accessories Necessary for Safe Operation.” The regulatory body granted Stoneridge a five year exemption to install its camera monitoring system on trucks in lieu of two rear-view mirrors, finding that “use of the MirrorEye system in lieu of mirrors would likely achieve a level of safety equivalent to or greater than the level of safety provided by the regulation.”

And FXFE is already testing said cameras...

The one on the drivers side looks like it could be in the way getting in and out?
