I'm going to throw a stink bomb into this thread. I think the driver facing cameras are a good idea especially for the drivers who cannot seem to keep their hands off their cell phones while driving. The law is clear, no texting or operating a hand held device while the truck is in motion. I have heard tell of drivers being fired from our company after getting caught with a cell phone in their hand twice by the camera and I think that's fine. If they cannot keep the damned thing out of their hands when operating CMV, I don't want them on the road anyway, at least not wearing our company colors. Most of the time, people tend to be act more honest if they know they're being watched. Let's take damaged freight for example. We all know damage exceptions are on the rise, hell at my place we've lost good customers just for that reason alone. How about we put cameras on the docks and start watching everyone who moves freight. Since it's so hard nowadays to hold someone accountable, these young people will deny deny deny right to your face even if you see them tearing stuff up, they will try to blame someone else. Video tape doesn't lie, catch 'em on the camera and write their asses up for tearing up the freight. Rant over, thank you.
