ODFL | Layoffs

When i use to run a 370 mi run as my bid that was solid 5 nites a week and never cancelled the drivers with 5 and 600 miles bids would taunt me how can i live on so little and call me scum bum and when it was slow and their 600 was cancelled twice a week they were foaming at the mouth to try to steal my little run

I don’t believe it’s just because of our meteorogially challenged drivers... I don’t know if it’s true or not but I’ve heard management has come down on some of the schedule guys only working 4 days a week. Makes no sense. If you have a schedule and only want to work 4 days who cares? We’ve got more than plenty of extra board to cover. Meanwhile we have a mandatory extra workday schedule posted for the dock... go figure.
I see the same thing happening. all I can figure is there just continuing to look for needles in a haystack to terminate people. Same way here plenty of extra board not working should be able to take off all the time we want. also seems like they're cracking down just because once we get into spring we start vacation season but we're not quite there yet.

And I thought I was lazy , running a 391 mi layover.
They always cancelled you on a holiday, if you wanted to work, you would just hold for your run and thay would run you, if you didn't want to run, you were paid an 8hr minnie.

I’ve got a 408 mile run, haven’t been cancelled once this winter.

I just applied in Dallas . As they just posted needing linehaul drivers I guess that was a mistake . Most jobs posted are city drivers all over country .

Honestly I don’t know why we are hiring anyone. Here it is April and it’s dead as hell. We only have a couple of months at best to get busy. Then we enter the winter and campaign season for the upcoming election year. You think it’s slow now? Just wait....

Same way at Estes. Slow nationwide, guys sitting at home on the road and city board everywhere, yet if you go to the careers section online there are 400+ driving jobs available right now.

My personal opinion is that they’re trying to prep for the failure of YRC. I may be off base, but in the event of a no vote and shut down over at YRC it’s going to be root, hog or die for the immediate influx of available freight into the market. I’m sure OD wants to be in a position to handpick the best of what’s available and have the capacity to handle it seamlessly.

Well,we know what happened the last time they prepped. We had a parking lot full of tractor's they held instead of selling.Well, they sold them.

I said this something similar on another thread end of last year, that it felt like OD was staffed up and prepping for something. Sure looks like nothing at this point. But, I genuinely believe right now, if you read into what the stock market, fed and interest rates and even a little in the housing and auto markets ...lastly now the slowdown in freight, prior to election year ...may indicate we are officially entering an economic slowdown and dare I say, a possible recession starting by end of this year into all of next. I fear that could be the truth of what is on the horizon. But I hope, it prepping for something. I do think if we enter the next economic slowdown/recession we could finally see the demise of YRC, and even the demise of XPO.

YRC maybe but I don't really see XPO going upside down.JMO.As far as any potential freight from YRC my understanding is there isn't much we would want. But it would probably cause some capacity issues within the industry.

If YRC goes under what happens to the regional LTL carriers? Reddaway etc. They done too?

Yo they will be gone too.,, but don’t worry we will be slow still bc we cost too much for the customers who use yrc
