XPO | No Work ,no Freight

You got that right HS about guys bugging out to buy their own tractors to be their own bosses. For example we had a 20 plus year vet who quit last year who bought his own tractor and is hauling containers from local ship and rail yards. Another 15 year vet left last week and is doing the same thing. I talked to another old timer with the company and he’s on the verge a buying his own truck and joining that crew.
All that we’re getting to replace these seasoned vets are just kids out of driving school. Not looking good for the company to grow their business!!!

Losing experienced people that were invested and gave a ::shit::. Replacing them with young people that don't care about anything at all. That's not a good way to grow a business ? Huh, somebody should make note of that. We got our day time line haul coming back and being sent out in the city everyday. They are just picking switches. But we can't even rely on our new hires for switches. So they are working these guys with 30 years in, 12 hours a day. And it's going to run some of them out the company, and the rest of them to bid very differently next year.

We can't hire anything. There have been a few good guys come in. But they don't last long. And are looking while they are working here. Lining up their next gig. Just using this as a stepping stone to what they want. Most of what dockhands we train, do it knowing that with the raise in income after they get their license, that even if they have to pay it back for leaving, that they will be able to afford leaving after they get that CDL. Jobs everywhere in this town. Pick what you want. Garbage trucks, Wal-Mart, AEP it's so wide and varied. XPO is making zero effort to retain any talent. The competition is way ahead on compensation for drivers and dockhands. So we don't even have a good pool to pull from and train as drivers.

It's an awful situation when you can't keep the old guys or the new guys. Usually a company will focus on one or the other. XPO has chose neither. Maybe they are gonna run line haul with drones ? LOL. One skid at a time. I wonder what weight limit and range is on those things. And I wonder how long after they launch that municipalities and states ban them like the computer driven trucks. Hey guys look, it's the future ! And it's even more messed up than the past.

What great insight HS...very perceptive and true. Does Corp read these boards and scratch their collectives heads wondering if you or any of us bottom feeding underlings have something that they might try to help retain their most valuable asset, i.e. us drivers???

We have no value to those people up in the corp office. None at all. We can't see the forest for the trees down here. Just not seeing the big picture like they can. They are pissed and frustrated, wondering why we are still hanging around. They don't want us here. That's why they scratch their heads. Confused at why after everything that has gone on, that there would be anyone left that gives a frak at all.

And I hear they monitor social media and so forth. And Jeff used to tell everybody all the time that the biggest use of Truckingboards comes from the locations of the headquarters for the biggest trucking employers. So it's not like they don't have the information. And things are still the way they are. So it is what it is. Until it isn't any more.

What is happening to XPO ? We lost all the freight in our area, what is happening people.
We were a little slow and then..... NEMF closed now we are busy and not just a little. Have a full LH board and no one has sat hell we even adding 2 more drivers to it. Some day we have 3 to 5 driver via through just to get freight to the FAC.

yea fly..tell the truth. Your guys are busy becuse as terminal of the year your dispatch controls the freight flow and now they use your guys again to move other terminals freight and let their drivers sit home. Same thing they do every year when it gets slow. Screw the drivers from pther terminals then use your own to move the freight. We need to get rid of Dispatch at your terminal and give it back to SLC where everyone can be treated fairly. So quit bragging

Understand, but in this blistering economy we should have no problem securing new business if were as well liked by our customers as we’re told.
I don’t know of the customers saying we’re well liked. In our area we’re considered the worst and as matter of fact one customer said we went from the best (Con-way) to the absolute worst (XPO). Management needs to re-evaluate themselves! NOT!

I'm in the Great Lakes area and there are two XPO terminals I pass almost daily. Both still have hiring signs up on fence. Ones been there for awhile but other just went up last week. In my peddle area, however, YRC, Holland, Pitt and OD are eating XPO's lunch. XPO had two spotted pups at two shippers for the past 18 months or so and both have been pulled within the last two weeks and replaced with YRC trailers. The regular XPO driver seems busy enough, but the volume stuff seems to have gone away

Yrc and usf Holland are literally taking all of our freight, Yet the terminal manager acts like it’s not a big deal, the more we loose the less they care

First - I actually love my job as a driver. It would be even better if management weren't so damn idiotic.

With all the ways that the upper management is trying to keep money in their pockets ( do things as cheap as possible ) you would have to believe that it was just a matter of time until the half-assed approach would catch up to XPO LTL.

If you work at XPO , you see the pursuit of numbers as God. Some reliance on goals and numbers is good , but should you focus on numbers so much that you loose the ability to think and judge for yourself as management?

In my opinion the heavy dependence on software and corporate "guidance" without meaningful input from local management will kick XPO in the ass. After loosing so many experienced people ( with common sense ) the management you have left are mostly weak yes men that are fearful of loosing their job if they think or act on their own.

Slowly , this is affecting the relationships XPO has with it's customers. Eventually , it may impact business and the bottom line. ( if it hasn't already )

It takes one moment to loose a good reputation...it may take forever to gain it back.

I have a hard time believing that we are well liked. In addition to the loss of Amazon, class action lawsuits, poor performance in Europe, 2018 was a record breaking year for freight damage.

OH damm you caught me. That right a whole bunch of us left last night on empties went to another barn and pickup there loads all while they sat guys at home. The we all got to the FAC and the told us to take empties and go to another barn and pickup there freight and bring it back to the FAC. So they could sit even more guys. Then when we got there they hand us all via's so we had to cover the freight for the guys that they let sit. Nothing like a 600 mile night. LOL

How do you like that reply????
I just answer the man question with what was happening in my area.
