This terminal it's been run to the ground. No respect for the union shop steward. Management is disrespectful at anytime given time. When I started here there was a lot of drivers and now not too many of us left. The new hires they look like they coming out McDonald's, no experience and some are class B drivers. What is YRC is coming to? The bottom guy was walking left and right and then got forced to the dock at 1 am bid. Now he gets his 8 hrs and at 9 am goes out and drive 4 to 6 hrs over time daily. Management is bitching about the overtime but then turns around and it's ok when it suits them. This is crazy here. If this contract doesn't amount to much, after 20 years I think I'll be hanging my gloves and move on to something else.

I ran Westchester for Roadway from 1990 to 2007. I knew a lot of the drivers there and they always had problems with management there. If they have no respect for your steward it is time to replace him. Does he get any backing from your local? I doubt it, it's more important to them to keep the place open than standing up for their men. Unfortunately you guys are going to have to stand up for yourselves and be united. Get everybody on the same page and push back on the issues you really care about, they need you more then you need them. Give it a shot before you hang up those gloves. You guys with some seniority need to educate the new guys because to most of them YRC is the best job they ever had, they don't know what a good and strong union job used to be. I put in almost 40 years on the job and seen it all, take a stand and fight for your rights.

There is no use over here. These new drivers are not what it used to be 30 years ago. I don't know where they get these people from. This MJ supervisor or so-called OM is terrible. It's like winning kid. When he doesn't get his way he throws a tantrum. Very vindictive and bad to moral.

Send them rejects to 104. We are about to be at 18 men on bid. No ability to attract new help. We don't attend job fairs or hang signs. But we got 4 scab drivers and 18 doors blocked off for a special project. When the merger went down we had 55 men on bid.

You don't want these drivers. They don't even look presentable.

The shop steward here @ 150 is good man. But local 707 doesn't backing him up at all. This local is like an employee of YRC. Local 707 is like a none participating Teamster member. They should close this local. It's broke and low in members. It's pitiful and embarrassing to call this a union job.

I know what is going on with Local 707, and I'm glad to hear that the steward is a good man. If the local don't back him up you guys all need to have his back, stick together on the issues that really concerns you and push back. If the men don;t have a backbone then you're dead. I worked in Local 191 in CT. for 5 years and we had a T.M. there who thought he was the supreme leader. After we got everybody to stick together guess what, he was fired, gone see you later. It can happen and our terminal became a decent place to work with the new T.M. who came to us and asked how do we make money at this terminal. Remember you guys are the union. What I am saying is 191 didn't support the men there either and when a group of us came there from a N.J. local we got things turned around.

Frank C and Tim M come to my mind reading this.

You are absolutely correct. But the new drivers gave no balls. The TM is a decent honest person. He is not the problem. The problem is is the dispatcher glorified operations manager that had been there too long. They can even keep a decent dock supervisor without quitting ’cause of him. Well until now. They got a yes man dock supervisor that had lasted more than the other ones. But

rank is still. Tim left.

Better yet, it is easier to rattle a dispatcher than a tm. If you can help some of the new drivers how to grow a set of balls it is easy to malipulate a dispatcher who is an *******. I don't miss much about driving anymore since I retired, but playing the game with dispatchers is something I do miss. Don't get me wrong, everybody should do their job to the best of their ability but then if the dispatcher don't appreciate the job you are doing "for him" he needs to learn a lesson. Make his job more and more difficult everyday and when his T.M. asks him what's going on that the work isn't getting done maybe he will open his eyes. There is an old saying in the trucking business, "you are only as good as your workers make you". By the way do you work with a guy named Marlon?

Yes. He is the shop steward. Nice guy.

We mostly had good dispatchers, now and then, you got one from a non union outfit, you had to teach him the ropes, that was half the fun of my job.

why don't you express your opinions about this local & its president suffolk county legislator kevin mccaffrey to [email protected]?
mccaffrey is running scared having lost the conservative party line in his reelection bid. perhaps with one less job there might be more time to devote to the local?

It's like fighting 800-pound8 gorilla. For instance:i the local let YRC hire class b drivers and one came up from the dock. But as I understood, class b drivers would not be the same as the class A drivers since this job had always been a class A job. They would be considered 2nd tear drivers and should not be allowed on any bid. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Their breaking all the rules and everything we have accomplished throughoutt the years is being erased, thanks to our own local. Another thing is that you get a junior driver(last on the list) walking left and right. He gets forced into the dock( 1 am shift) suddenly were not slow anymore and he goes out after 9:30 am until 1 to 3:00 in the afternoon and on topt of everything he gets called to coming on his day off Monday to work 4 t 6 hours OT or more. This is complete lunacy here. Who knows if he is out of hours by Thursday. DOT should be vigilant about this terminal and hours of service.
